Cover Supervisor (Maths)

Location: North Shields, Newcastle

Salary: £95 - £120 per day

Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education’s Newcastle branch is looking for a dedicated and proactive Cover Supervisor specialising in Maths to work in secondary schools across North Shields. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are confident in classroom management and passionate about supporting students' academic progression in Mathematics. The role is ideal for someone looking to gain teaching experience or for those with previous experience in similar roles.

Job Summary

As a Maths Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing classrooms during teacher absences, delivering pre-prepared lessons to students, and ensuring a constructive learning environment. This role involves supervising students, maintaining discipline, and providing additional support when necessary to help students achieve their learning objectives.

Key Responsibilities Of a Cover Supervisor (Maths)

• Supervise and deliver pre-set Maths lessons to secondary students across KS3 and KS4.
• Manage classroom behaviour, ensuring students remain on task and follow school policies.
• Ensure that the learning environment is conducive to student learning, addressing any disruptions calmly and effectively.
• Offer additional support to students, explaining lesson content where needed to ensure understanding.
• Provide feedback to teachers on student progress, behaviour, and any issues encountered during the lesson.
• Support the Maths department in the preparation of teaching resources and lesson materials when required.
• Uphold the school’s safeguarding and behaviour management policies, promoting a positive and safe learning environment.
• Assist with pastoral duties and help foster a respectful and inclusive school culture.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the school day.
• Take responsibility for classroom administration, including maintaining accurate records of attendance and work completed.
  
  

Essential Requirements For a Cover Supervisor (Maths)

• Strong subject knowledge in Mathematics, with the ability to confidently supervise and support lessons.
• Previous experience working with secondary-aged students, ideally in a school setting.
• Excellent classroom management skills with the ability to engage students and manage behaviour effectively.
• A positive, proactive attitude and the ability to adapt to different classroom dynamics.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and colleagues.
• The ability to work independently and manage time effectively during cover periods.
• A commitment to upholding the school's safeguarding and child protection policies.
• An enhanced DBS check registered to the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
