The People Advisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective implementation of HR policies and practices. They provide expert advice and support to managers and employees on a wide range of HR topics, including but not limited to employee relations, performance management, and employment law to ensure all business areas are compliant and working effectively within the law, to reduce the risk of potential litigation claims.
This role is based at our Nottingham site and is a hybrid role , typically in the office 3 days a week, you will have the flexibility to determine when it’s necessary to be on-site vs working from home in line with supporting your business areas.
As our People Advisor, here’s what you will be doing:
- Provide expert employee relations advice to people managers on all aspects of employee relations, offering sound, practical guidance
- Support people managers through the employee life cycle, ensuring policies and procedures are followed, and legal frameworks are adhered to
- Handle complex ER cases effectively, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, policy, and procedure. Attending meetings where necessary, providing HR support and taking accurate notes
- Support people managers on performance management issues, coaching them on managing poor performance and applying disciplinary and grievance procedures
- Work with people managers on employee engagement initiatives, helping to identify areas for improvement
- Oversee colleague forum representation, managing elections as required to ensure employee voice and participation
- Provide support to people managers on health and safety concerns, including arranging and advising on occupational health referrals
- Drive engagement in EDI and Wellbeing initiatives, supporting the roll-out and development of the EDI and Wellbeing plan
- Plan and organise inclusive wellbeing events, fostering a culture of mental and physical wellness
- Support the development of the People Services Assistant, providing mentorship and guidance to enable their growth within the team
Interested in the role? Here’s what we’re Looking For
- CIPD Level 5 and /or demonstrable relevant in field experience, retail or contact centre background is desirable but not essential
- In-depth knowledge of employment law, HR legislation, and compliance (e.g., disciplinary, grievance, redundancy processes, GDPR, health and safety regulations)
- Strong understanding of HR policies and procedures, including their practical application and development
- Expertise in managing complex ER cases, including conflict resolution, disciplinary, and grievance processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to advise, coach and influence people managers and employees at all levels
- Experience with HR systems and software, ensuring accurate record-keeping and reporting is desirable
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- High attention to detail, particularly in legal compliance and documentation
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel & Teams.
