As the new Handyperson you will support all aspects of maintenance of placement properties and grounds within a hub area and as well as other properties we manage. The post will provide safe and appropriately maintained properties. Key characteristic requirements of this post are: experience in the maintenance of buildings and resources, commitment, flexibility and some understanding of the needs of the young people who have complex and challenging behaviour.
To have individual responsibility in accordance with the practices and procedures of the Local Authority for maintenance of establishment grounds and building and undertake general cleaning duties.
Varied range of experience in a maintenance role including gardening, DIY, basic joinery and plumbing. Patient, calm and fulfil work requirements to a good and safe standard.
Knowledge - Have some knowledge of the issues affecting vulnerable young people - Know how to maintain buildings, grounds and fixtures and fittings Some knowledge of Health and Safety at Work.
Occupational Skills - Broad range of maintenance skills - Time management skills - Team working skills - Communication skills Literacy and numeracy skills.
Operational management:
- Timely, routine maintenance and repairs to a good and safe standard. To recognise and understand the importance of Health & Safety and fire protection equipment and records (e.g. Electric checks, fire alarms, emergency lighting, automatic fire detection, fire doors etc.)
- General maintenance of the grounds, buildings and fixtures and fittings to ensure clear safe access to the property at all times.
- General handy person work within the building i.e. decorating, moving furniture, cleaning drains, replacing light bulbs, basic plumbing and joinery etc.
- To provide as necessary a service to a range of placements in the hub area.
- Operation of powered equipment including domestic and commercial-type laundry machines, irons, presses etc.
- Make suitable arrangements via outside laundry contractors (including dry cleaning) if authorised.
- Cleaning of laundry, kitchen areas and equipment.
- Cleaning of designated areas to ensure that they are kept in a hygienic condition.
- To provide a point of contact to maintenance contractors
