Purpose of the Job

· To ensure that all families who are existing clients of or referred to Oasis Charity are aware of the services provided by us and that these families have access to our services when required. Establish relationships with families in an environment that is welcoming and meets their individual needs.

· To provide outreach support to families that include children at risk of social exclusion by both assisting the Director of Services with their case load and independently managing a defined case load.

· To organise and run groups for vulnerable sections of the community both independently and alongside the other members of the Outreach Team.

Responsibilities

· To establish and build relationships with Oasis’ families, supporting them to access the services available through statutory and voluntary agencies including early years provision, health, family support, alcohol and drug, immigration and employment related services.

· To support parents and children to increase knowledge of their children’s development and potential, enable them to gain confidence in their role as parents and to build better family relationships applying professional expertise and best practice.

· To plan and develop, deliver and evaluate an appropriate range of parenting and family group work to meet the needs of the community.

· To keep accurate records adhering to relevant policies regarding confidentiality and information sharing, promoting an environment that safeguards and protects children and vulnerable adults.

· To be responsible for keeping up to date with and adhering to all relevant policies, procedures and multi-agency working protocols related to the post.

· To attend relevant meetings and training to keep up to date with best practice and support continuous professional development.

Work Context

· Work flexibly and respond positively to changing service needs and carry out any other duties within the scope of the nature and grade of the post as directed by the line manager.

· Oasis Charity plays a central role in improving outcomes for all young children and in reducing inequalities in outcomes between the most disadvantaged children and the rest. Oasis Charity will provide access to high quality early years provision, health, family support and employment related services.

· The post holder will play a key role in ensuring that all families within Oasis Charity’s support area are informed about the services available and are supported to access them.

· To ensure that family support is delivered effectively, the post holder will be required to liaise with other staff to plan and monitor services.

· Deliver training courses for parents on domestic abuse, resilience and parenting.

· Develop, plan and manage a young parents’ group.

· All services are developed ensuring that the needs of children are paramount.

Person Specification

Education, Training and Work Qualifications

Minimum:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in early years, childcare or health and social care.

Desirable:

  • Educated to degree level in any areas of social care.
  • Recognised parenting qualification.
  • Parenting, coaching or counselling qualification.
  • Certificates

Knowledge

Minimum:

  • Understanding of the need for inclusive quality community and family support services.
  • Understand the issues faced by Surrey’s diverse communities and barriers to inclusion.
  • Understanding of Early Years Foundation Stage and other relevant early years legislation.
  • Knowledge of the importance of play and the developmental needs of children.

Desirable:

  • Awareness of the roles and responsibilities of other agencies and professionals working with all children and families.
  • Understanding of the Early Help Assessment system and Safeguarding procedures.

Skills and Abilities

Minimum:

  • A proficient level of literacy and numeracy.
  • IT skills using MS Word.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Good interpersonal combined with the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to work, empathise and communicate effectively with all sections of the community.
  • Ability to problem solve using creative and innovative approaches.
  • Ability to manage difficult conversations.
  • Ability to delivery family focused activities.

Relevant Experience

Minimum:

  • Significant experience of working with children and families.
  • Experience of developing positive working relationships with a range of service users.

Desirable:

  • Experience of multi-agency working.
  • Experience of developing new support services for children and families.
  • Experience of delivering parenting courses.
  • Experience of working with user groups who traditionally do not access services.
  • Experience of working with families with a history of domestic abuse and running relevant programs in this field.
