The Role
In this role you will provide high quality support and guidance to participants, to help break down barriers to successful resettlement. You will help enhance participants skill sets helping them to find and secure sustainable employment opportunities.
You will undergo enhanced vetting checks for this role.
In this role you will work in custody at HMP Wandsworth.
We are looking for people who have:
o An understanding of the barriers faced by prisoners or prison leavers to reintegrated back into society.
o Strong interpersonal communication skills, including active listening and motivational skills
o A proactive and solution focused approach
o An awareness, understanding, and commitment to the protection and safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.
o The ability to pass a Disclosure and Barring Service Check at an enhanced level and successfully pass prison vetting.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
o Responsible for managing a caseload of participants with complex needs, ensuring the delivery and coordination of all achievements including induction, assessment, support work, training and education, pre-release preparation and employment sourcing/support
o Updating of case notes including risk and inputting of achievements onto CATS the commissioners case management recording system, ensuring a high level of compliance to avoid rejected achievements
o Ensuring that P-Nomis, the prison case management recording system, is updated where relevant with work carried out with the participant, and any information relevant to the participant, such as achievements, actions, safety and security
o Building, managing and maintaining local stakeholder relationships within the prisons and local community, to ensure a steady flow of referrals/support and ensure that there is no duplication of services
o Build, manage and maintain relationships with other Creating Future Opportunities (CFO) Evolution staff (both externally and internally) to ensure smooth transition for prison through the date, including arrange pre-release 3-way meetings and supporting with Release on Temporary Licence (RoTL)
o Support with the identification, resourcing, and coordinator of partner delivery for CFO Evolution participants.
Qualifications
o ICT proficiency including all major Microsoft applications
o Level 2 English & Maths or equivalent experience
o IAG qualification e.g., NVQ Information, Advice and Guidance
o Level 3 Award in Education and Training or PTLLS
Skills & Experience
o Understanding of the barriers faced by prisoners/prison leavers with multiple and/or complex needs in relation to reintegration back into society
o Ability to work with and manage challenging behaviour
o Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work effectively with partnership agencies
o Demonstrable experience of successfully working to targets
o Demonstrable experience of motivating and supporting individuals with multiple and complex needs to overcome barriers and progress towards future goals of education, training and employment
o Good verbal, presentation and written skills and ability to communicate concisely and effectively
o Good IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office software and previous experience of working with databases
o Ability to critically reflect and evaluate interventions and service delivery
o Ability to identify areas for development through a continuous improvement process.
o An understanding of, and positive attitude towards: mental and physical health; community and social inclusion; and a strength and assets-based approach to engaging participants.
o Experience of supporting offenders in the community and/ or custody to progress towards education, training and employment
o Strong communication and motivational skills across a broad range of resource types, skills and backgrounds
o Proactive and solution focused, taking initiative to create opportunities
o Passionate about making a positive difference to peoples’ lives
o Excellent organisational skills and time management
o Ability to work independently, providing community-based support to participants from our centres
