St Ed’s is a provider of alternative vocational education for young people aged 11-18 (25 with an EHCP)

Key Purpose

· To support in the delivery of high quality teaching and learning over a range of courses and levels.

· To ensure the health, safety, safeguarding and well-being of learners, staff and visitors to the Centre in accordance with St Ed’s operating policies.

· To support all students in achieving their potential by taking a pro-active, enthusiastic and flexible approach in accordance with St Ed’s ethos and operating procedures, policies and corporate strategy.

· Demonstrate successful experience in an education setting, especially supporting students to manage behaviour.

· Support and deliver the programmes for engagement of school students.

· Working closely with the Welfare Team, to run the ‘Safe Space’ room, giving students time out from lessons to emotionally regulate.

· Be familiar with lesson plans, Student Support needs and achievements.

· To work alongside the Welfare Team to support vulnerable students.

· To work in conjunction with students and their parents/carers to establish any barriers to learning and implement bespoke packages of support as required.

· Supporting the students through Engagement Activities, to gain life skills and different perspectives and experiences.

· Signposting students to the Assessment and Care Team, or appropriate external agencies.

Main duties and responsibilities:

· To support students during lessons, ensuring they are fully engaged and making progress

· Assist the Tutor with the delivery of teaching and learning, encouraging positive behaviour and engagement, whilst supporting individual learning styles

· To support the students to find creative ways to engage in learning

· To support students in community projects to promote engagement and work experience

· Tracking progress and providing feedback to both students, staff and schools

· Assist in the updating of student records

· To positively engage with all students including those that display challenging behaviours, enabling students to be treated as individuals in a person-centred manner

· Deal, in conjunction with Welfare department, with any student conflict or incidents in line with both the individual’s plans and St Ed’s policies, ensuring that all incidents are recorded properly

· To undertake initial home visits with students requiring one to one support to complete an assessment of need and determine the identified barriers to learning prior to their plcements starting at St Eds.

· To work as part of St Ed’s team to manage student’s behaviour on site, in accordance with St Ed’s ethos, code of conduct, behaviours and rewards policy and the overriding corporate strategy

· Maintain standards required under the Health & Safety at Work Act and all relevant health and safety regulations

· To support other staff where needed across St Ed’s core activities

· Contribute, where possible, with the development of the vocational curriculum, and subsequent design of delivery areas and methods

· Contribute to and participate in the whole organisations performance, leading by example and working as part of a team

· To support the management with the registration and management of vocational qualifications.

· To identify and remove barriers to attendance, performance and progression by direct intervention, by developing support mechanisms and, when necessary, by referring through agreed procedures, the individual learner to specialists for support.

· To liaise with teaching staff, personal tutors and other support staff in helping individual learners set realistic and appropriate targets and to support them in gauging their own performance.

· To access and share learner information within information-sharing protocols to help ensure that transitions and progression opportunities are available to young people.

· To liaise with providers of education, training and employment in order to develop a sound understanding of the information and opportunities available to young people.

· To assist in the collation and maintenance of manual and electrical resources including the GRWP Portal.

· To assist in the collection and maintenance of all confidential information and records relating to learners.

· To be aware of the Child Protection legislation and operate within the set guidelines.

· To be aware of the additional needs of ethnic minority individual learners in relation to language and equal opportunities and those needing additional support.

· To attend regular meetings to discuss those at risk of disengaging from learning.

· To attend professionals’ meetings as directed by the Welfare and Inclusion Manager.

· To offer welfare support to learners if directed by the Welfare Inclusion Officer, referring them onto relevant agencies as deemed appropriate.

· To undertake home visits as required to complete referral assessment forms.

· To tailor support plans in accordance with the needs identified in the assessment and referral paperwork for all school age students.

Qualifications:

Computer literate with Microsoft packages, email and use of internet. Achieved a minimum of grade C, 4 or equivalent in ICT.

Achieved a minimum of grade C, 4 or equivalent in Maths and English.

Experience:

Must be well organised, able to work in a demanding environment, have the ability to multi-task, pay attention to detail, to collate information from multiple documents, to prepare for meetings and take meeting minutes.

Would be beneficial if you had experience of working with people who are vulnerable, disengaged from learning, possibly with multiple needs and or behaviour issues across and age range to include children, young people and adults.

Skills and Knowledge

The right candidate must have excellent communication skills, the ability to self-manage workload, be reliable and non-judgemental, to be able to plan and prepare work in advance and the ability to prepare and present information effectively.

Pay: £23,000.00-£24,000.00 per year
