We are looking for hard-working, friendly, self-motivating staff, to join us on a temporary basis over the festive period, to help us to create an amazing visitor experience at Luminate. We believe that the experience of all of our visitors is enhanced by employing friendly and engaging stewards, who are happy to talk to the general public throughout their visit to Luminate, whilst also ensuring everyone stays safe.
Who are we and what is Luminate?
We are J9 Events Ltd. We run The Great British Food Festival and Luminate. We have been running Luminate since 2019. We like to think that we are a friendly bunch, who will value and look after our support staff well. We believe that our team on the day (or night!) is fundamentally important in ensuring that our visitors’ experience with us is as good as it can be and that our Event overall is a success. We look forward to working hard alongside you, to make sure that that is the case.
Luminate is an approx. 1-mile enchanting, illuminated light trail set to ambient music. with many dwelling points & interactive moments.
Food and drink are available to purchase onsite with fire pits part way round the trail to toast marshmallows and soak up the atmosphere. A timeless experience to be enjoyed by all, young and old alike.
Roles and Responsibilities
Fire Marshall - in control of our fire pits, must be confident and sensible to start the fire and maintain throughout the run, ensuring the public are safe, following our procedures.
Entrance/ Check in - using our check in system that is on an electronic device to check in the members of the public at their booked timeslot, requires bubbly, confident people to make sure the public start their experience with us in the best way. Happy taking payments if the capacity allows it.
Interactive Stewarding - making sure members of the public are guided along the route, answering any questions they may have about the trail. Monitoring/managing any cross-over points.
Luminate offers many interactive light installations that require a steward to be enthusiastic about their position, show the public how to use, and must be a confident in engaging with people.
Concession Huts (must be over 21) - Our concession huts involve the sale of marshmallows, mulled wine, Hot Chocolate, soft drinks and snacks. Must be confident in upselling our offering and using POS systems. You will be expected to attend separate training for this.
Where, When, Pay and Hours
Location is Birmingham Botanical Gardens and the dates are 29th Nov - 1st Jan 2025 (excluding Christmas day). You must be able to work a minimum of 3 days per week to be accepted.
18–20 years old - £10.50 an hour plus pro rata holiday pay
21 and over - £12 an hour plus pro rata holiday pay
Approx hours during the week - 4pm-8:30pm/9pm. Approx hours during the weekend and last week up to Christmas - 4pm-9:30/10pm
Important Note
The Event takes place over the Winter period in the late afternoon/evening time – it will go ahead regardless of the weather and all roles will be based outside. It will definitely be cold and dark and often very wet!! All roles involve standing/walking throughout the shift, there are no seated roles. Please take this into consideration before applying for the role!
