Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Mechanical Project Manager/Contracts Manager to oversee a new build project in Cambridge valued at £15 million. This role requires extensive experience in managing projects up to £7 million and offers a competitive salary ranging from £75,000 to £100,000. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management:
    • Lead and manage the design and construction of a new build project valued at £15 million.
    • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and ensure all milestones are achieved.
    • Ensure all mechanical aspects of the project comply with industry standards and regulations.
  • Contracts Management:
    • Oversee all contractual aspects of the project, ensuring compliance with contract terms and conditions.
    • Manage relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring seamless project delivery.
    • Negotiate and manage contracts, change orders, and project budgets.
  • Technical Oversight:
    • Supervise the design, installation, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality of work, and adherence to project specifications.
    • Resolve any technical issues that arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Health and Safety:
    • Implement and enforce health and safety policies on site.
    • Conduct risk assessments and ensure all safety measures are in place and adhered to.
    • Investigate and report any accidents or incidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Team Management:
    • Lead and manage a team of mechanical engineers and subcontractors.
    • Provide guidance and support to team members, fostering a collaborative work environment.
    • Conduct regular team meetings to review progress, address challenges, and plan upcoming tasks.
  • Client Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding mechanical project aspects.
    • Attend project meetings and provide updates on progress and any issues encountered.
    • Ensure client requirements and specifications are understood and met.
  • Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of project progress, including daily logs, site reports, and quality assurance documentation.
    • Prepare and submit regular progress reports to senior management and other stakeholders.
    • Ensure all mechanical installations are properly documented and as-built drawings are updated.
Qualifications And Experience

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Manager or Contracts Manager, particularly in projects up to £7 million.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and ductwork.
  • City & Guilds Engineering qualifications or a Degree/HNC equivalent in a related field.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certification preferred.
