In this job, you will lead the Western Transmission System Analysis team under the Transmission System Planning & Strategy group and will have a leadership role on high impact programs such as the Annual Transmission Reliability Assessment (NERC TPL-001) and the interconnection of generation facilities, wholesale load, and new transmission facilities to SCE’s transmission system. You will be responsible for guiding, mentoring, and leading a team of 8 engineers on the execution of annual system planning tasks and activities and will lead and support the enhancement of system planning processes, methodologies, and tool development.
You will work in close partnership with peer groups that are responsible for closely related portions of the expansion of the transmission system and the interconnection of generation facilities, wholesale load, and new transmission facilities such as Strategy & Project Development, Transmission Engineering, Grid Interconnection & Contract Development, Major Project Organization, among others. You will meet regularly with senior management within Transmission System Planning & Strategy and will work closely with internal stakeholder groups including but not limited to, Resource Planning, Energy Procurement, and Regulatory Affairs teams to determine and lead strategic methods to meet company initiatives. You will also interact with external stakeholders such as the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) as part of our annual transmission planning process.

- Coach, mentor and provide guidance and development of goals for direct reports
- Manage and serve as team lead of all technical analyses required to ensure planning studies (transmission system expansion, interconnection of generation facilities, wholesale load, and new transmission facilities to SCE’s transmission system), are performed satisfactorily and sound technical mitigation measures are recommended
- Use best engineering analysis possible to determine short- and long-term transmission infrastructure needs and ensure compliance with applicable transmission planning standards and regulatory requirements.
- Actively engage, understand, and contribute to the CAISO planning processes, building strong relationships
- Manage, lead the development, and sponsor simple and major transmission plans and projects, including generator interconnections and transmission system upgrades needed for integrating renewable energy resources to meet State mandated requirements and for serving growing load demand
- Manage team efforts across the organization including inside and outside counsel and external entities such as local government agencies, the California Energy Commission, the CAISO, and the California Public Utilities Commission
- Coordinate analysis for strategic initiatives such as Pathway 2045
- Assist Senior Management in the development, documentation, and implementation of new processes, process improvements, and methodologies for new generation transmission interconnections and all technical studies performed along with training, coaching, and mentoring.
The essentials:
- Five (5) or more years of experience supervising a technical team of engineers or performing engineering/power system planning functions
The preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related fields.
- A strong understanding of the SCE’s Transmission Owner Tariff (TOT) and CAISO’s Transmission Planning Process (TPP) and Generator Interconnection and Deliverability Allocation Procedures (GIDAP)
- A thorough understanding of transmission planning and NERC reliability standards
- An understanding of transmission policy and regulatory issues, including interconnection reforms.
- Experience with common industry analytical tools such as, such as PowerWorld, PSLF, EMS, CAPE and PSCAD, or other similar software
- Strong communication and writing skills with the ability to communicate complicated technical issues in a succinct manner
- Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, project personnel, and all levels of management enterprise-wide to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in
- CA Professional Engineering License in Electrical Engineering

- This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
