Safety Professional Job Summary The Marathon Martinez Renewable Fuels Facility is seeking an experienced Safety Professional to provide functional expertise and guidance on safety to employees and contractors. The role provides breadth and depth of application and administration of personal health and safety programs along with the opportunity to support related disciplines. The position works normal business hours, Monday-Friday with the option to elect an alternative work schedule (i.e. 9/80) if desired. Key Responsibilities Provide technical support of routine operations, project work, major maintenance or construction support, and emergency response to ensure worker safety throughout the planning and execution phases of work. Support development, maintenance, and execution of safety programs for implementation in the field to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and conformance to MPC corporate standards. Conduct auditing on safety programs to verify compliance and conformance with regulatory and MPC standards. This includes analyzing safety performance data to identify and report trends, along with proposing recommendations to address areas of concern. Lead and support investigations for near-misses, incidents, and injuries to identify root causes and recommendations to prevent future incidents. Tracks recommendations to implementation to ensure completion. Develop and present training material related to a variety of safety topics in collaboration with Operations and Learning Development departments. Provide subject matter expertise for assigned programs, which may include providing input as a competent person for fall protection and excavation safety, support during Life Critical work and input on other regulatory programs. Develop safety related communications for inclusion into shift starter meetings, safety meeting, notices, and bulletins. Support other areas of H&S including Security, Emergency Response, and Process Safety, as necessary. Education, Experience and Skills Minimum Qualifications Must have a High School Diploma with 4 years of Safety Professional experience OR Bachelors Degree with 2 years of Safety Professional experience in a refinery, petro-chemical or other related heavy industry is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical. Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship. Must have a clean and valid drivers' license. Must be able to obtain a TWIC card. Travel Requirement is up to 5%. Must have working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements. Focus on developing business acumen and technical knowledge Ability to identify issues and work as an independent problem solver. Capable of managing conflict in the work environment Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety is preferred. Experience with California regulations is preferred.
