Tee up your career as a part of our team with the TPC Network! The Landscape Superintendent is responsible for managing the Landscape Department of Golf Course Maintenance. This includes overseeing the production, design and installment of ornamental landscaping for the golf course and clubhouse grounds. QUALIFICATIONS Associate or Bachelor in horticulture or a closely related field and related experience Knowledge of the characteristics, growth habit and proper cultivation of a wide selection of flowering bulbs and annual, biennial and perennial plant materials, including both herbaceous and woody plants Knowledge of the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers, soil conditioners and pest control methods and materials Must successfully pass state and local pesticide application certification and obtain license within 90 days in this position Working knowledge of golf course operations and practices necessary. First Aid certified Must be 18 years old and be able to operate a motor vehicle/have valid driver’s license Minimum of 5 years prior supervisory experience required RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES Manage the greenhouse and ornamental landscape nursery facilities. This includes selecting, propagating, and cultivating plant materials for ornamental use on and around the golf course, clubhouse grounds Select, order and purchase plants and materials relevant to property and tournament needs Develop yearly agronomic plan / Turf Management Plan (TMP) for turf areas and annual Landscape Management Plan (LMP) for trees, shrubs, and flowers for the Landscape Department Design the ornamental arrangement of flowers, shrubs and trees Create and implement proper pruning and trimming techniques and schedules of all ornamental landscape such as shrubs, trees and flowerbeds Advise the Director of Golf Course Maintenance Operations/ Golf Course Superintendent of the need for tree trimming services throughout the property Direct, oversee, and ensure proper tree pruning practices. Assist in development and implementation of root pruning program Design, install and maintain low-pressure irrigation systems for landscaping. Supervise and participate in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems Develop the Landscape Department budget, and manage respective line items in accordance with budgets while controlling general expenses for the entire Landscape Department Provide recommendations to Director of Golf Course Maintenance Operations/ Golf Course Superintendent on capital projects as they relate to Landscape Departments Schedule and supervise pesticide and fertilizer applications with regard to all areas within the scope of Landscape Department. Operate and calibrate pesticide application equipment. Document and maintain all pesticide and fertilizer applications and records in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, and laws and regulations Responsible for personnel management of Landscape Department, including hiring, training, employee safety, employee evaluations and discipline in according with departmental guidelines, policies and procedures Schedule and supervise Landscape Gardeners in the use of the equipment, planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls Serve as an environmental steward; actively participate in the golf course maintenance department environmental programs including; Water Management Plan, E-par, Integrated Pest management, and Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program Abide by all policies and procedures as stated in the Golf Course Maintenance Operations Manual PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a variety of outdoor weather conditions. Position is very active and requires lifting, pulling or pushing up to or over 50 pounds, moving and/or lift items with awkward weights. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, color vision, distance and peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
