JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Activities Aide will assist with the planning and development of the activities programs, as assigned by the Director of Activities, and will assist carrying out this Facility’s overall activities programs, as scheduled. Facilitation of such programs will include efforts by the Activities Aide to make available to all residents, cognitive and sensory stimulation, entertainment, opportunities for active exercise and creative expression than meets basic social, sensory and spiritual needs; subject to written restrictions and limitations as may be ordered by the physician.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two (2) years’ of experience with Activities therapy or a related field preferred

• High school diploma or a completed high school equivalency program.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have good written, verbal and reading skills—of the English language.

• Must have good people skills

• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action

• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with coworkers, residents, family members, visitors, government personnel and the general public

• Must be knowledgeable of practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care

• Must possess leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel

• Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Carries out activities programs which provide for the spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual and sensory needs of the resident population.

• Is responsible for leading group and individual activity programs

• Will provide meaningful sensory/environmental stimulation, encourage social interaction and provide emotional support and cognitive stimulation during the course of facilitating programs.

• Will make residents aware of activity option, encourage participation and/or facilitate resident opportunities for pursuit of individualized leisure interests that are within the resident’s cognitive and/or physical capabilities.

• Will maintain vigilant compliance with all safety and infection control policies and procedures.

• Will accommodate the special needs of cognitively-impaired residents, and provide support and assistance to the residents, as needed to ensure sensory/social stimulation within each resident’s capacity to receive and/or capability to be involved.

• Will be responsible for recording resident attendance in activities programs.

• As assigned by the Director of Activities, the Activities Worker will be responsible for required documentation, such as initial/annual resident assessments and quarterly progress notes.

• Is responsible for the care and storage of all materials, supplies and equipment.

• Will participate in the planning of recreational programs.

• Will participate in special programming events, as assigned by the Director of Activities.

• Will continually uphold resident rights, dignity and quality standards of practice/care.

• Will be alert to resident grievances and report such complaints to the Director of Activities and will participate in investigation and follow-up tasks, assigned.

• Conduct inventory checks of supplies, as assigned by the Director of Activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

As required by the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)

• To be able to carry approximately 10-25lbs

• Must possess visual and auditory acuity with or without assistive/corrective devices

• Must exhibit the ability to communicate verbal and written information in an effective time and manner

• Must exhibit the physical ability to provide the full scope of required job tasks. This includes but is not limited to lifting, prolonged sitting and repetitive movements.

• Must demonstrate the ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions and follow through with logical plan and course of action.

• Must demonstrate the ability to perform assigned tasks independently without the need to constant re-direction.

• Ability to stand for period of time, ability to bend

• Ability to assist in the mobility of residents and equipment
