The role reports to the Director of R&D - Mechanical and is located in Fort Smith, Arkansas. As a R&D Mechanical Intern, you will be working within the R&D Mechanical team at ABB NEMA Motors Division headquarters to assist with the design, specification, and analyses of industrial induction motors.
Your responsibilities- Work under the direction of senior engineers to provide product R&D support for the NEMA Motors business
- Learn the basics of design and testing of industrial electric motors
- Contribute to design team efforts to model new or revised designs or design components. Primary modeling tool is SolidWorks. Knowledge of 2D AutoCAD is also beneficial
- Support of manufacturing of prototypes or samples as required. Become familiar with basic manufacturing principles
- Must be actively enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's Degree curriculum
- 0-2 Years of experience with electric motors or other rotating machinery
- Familiarity with basic Microsoft tools (e.g., Word, Excel) is necessary
- Good communication skills and teaming skills
- Experience with solid modeling tools is required
