Primary Function:
This position is responsible to provide technical knowledge and leadership to identify and implement secondary packaging programs for Abbott Nutrition. Must be able to apply advanced methods and techniques to the design and execution of new packaging materials and structures. Must be able to understand transit routes and recommend development of secondary packaging structures and pallet patterns that will meet supply chain distribution. Programs will range from development of new secondary packaging concepts through optimization of existing secondary packaging for nutritional products. Effective ability to collaborate across divisional and regional boundaries is critical to be successful.
This position functionally resides in the Global Packaging Operations group, reporting directly to the Packaging Engineering Manager. Strong and intimate ties will exist between this role and Label Development and Distribution QA. The position will require the incumbent to travel locally sometimes at short notice and possibly for extended durations.
Primary Responsibilities:
a) Identification and development of new secondary packaging structures from concept through commercialization.
b.) Implement project work for Abbott sites and third party co-packaging manufacturers.
b) Identify and implement cost optimized opportunities with existing packaging.
c) Provide technical expertise on distribution packaging issues.
d) Provide detailed technical input & support to organizations employed on major capital projects.
e) Provide technical input to manufacturing sites on OEE improvement solutions for secondary packaging.
Successful candidate must demonstrate the following technical & leadership skills:
- Thorough technical knowledge of a wide range of packaging materials, structures, and printed material manufacturing processes.
- Experience in packaging test equipment and packaging software programs (ie. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Cape Pack)
- Experience in resolving supply chain challenges. ISTA certification is a bonus.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.

- Effective problem-solving skills.
- 10% travel.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging, Engineering, or related technical field and/or 6+ years packaging technical experience.
