The Data Analyst, Data Analytics and Informatics is an individual contributor to the development, maintenance, enhancement, and deployment of new or existing business intelligence and data applications in manufacturing, providing specialized technical and business knowledge to projects.

This role identifies and recommends business process efficiencies and improvements by formulating and solving analytics challenges that offers the greatest business opportunity and drives data-driven decision making. This role is responsible to determine appropriate datasets and algorithms, to uncover patterns, and to formulate business solutions.  It partners with the business to gather requirements and implement statistical data models using agile methodology, while aligning to global standards and best practices. The Data Analyst collaborates with business and BTS stakeholders to track and map value driven by the project to demonstrate savings and return on the investment (ROI) for process improvements derived from data analytics insights (such as product yield improvements, reduction of cycle time, and elimination of waste).

The Data Analyst will lead small to medium size data and technology deployments in support of a variety of manufacturing business processes by leveraging statistics and data analytics skills, applying a modular/re-usable template driven approach for developing solutions per line of business in manufacturing (such as Biologics, API, Packaging, Drug Product).

The Data Analyst acts as a technical liaison between BTS, vendors, and various business/client areas, using appropriate tools to collect, correlate, and analyze data for use, and implement solutions that drive business goals. Additionally, they may assist by working with senior analyst or team lead in larger scale and more complex technology initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
  • Consults with functional areas to develop understanding of the varied and complex business needs supported by the systems and data.  Responsible for determining how changing business needs will affect the system and data models.  Understands the role of the system and data in the big picture and provides ideas and recommendations regarding the evolution of the system and data models.
  • Configures, develops, and creates new statistical data models to collect, correlate, and analyze data for business insights. Skilled at univariate and multivariate data analysis. Can read, understand, and update existing models, develop reusable components, implement automated testing, ensuring rapid analytics lifecycle.
  • Responds to questions and influences the users regarding current and potential system and data inputs, processes, and outputs.  Conducts research and analysis into the nature, effect and results of system and data problems.  Develops detailed business user requirements, design documentation, work flow, and data models.  Negotiates plans, time frames and trade-offs while ensuring client understands the final results of the project. Builds great working relationship with clients; readily resolve issues.
  • Ensures current and accurate system and data documentation, coordinates and or performs testing of system modifications, both validated and non-validated systems.  Provides systems expertise and supports system training, educational tools and materials.  Involved with the Business System Owners, Site BTS Leads, and Site Operations Managers regarding planning/scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Complete projects/ tasks within time and budget constraints.  Document and mitigate technology deployment project issues and risks. Effectively monitor and control project scope and budget.  Escalate when appropriate to management. Communicate project progress to all appropriate stakeholders proactively. 
  • Applies analytical thinking skills to diagnose and make recommendations on systems and data. Incorporates knowledge of business and technology to make recommendations. Translates data gathered from user discussions into business requirements and wireframes.
  • Partners with business to analyze processes/needs and makes recommendations that are effective means to satisfy those needs. Analyzes complex work procedures and job methods and presents concepts to simplify those procedures.  
  • Work is performed and technical decisions are made with a clear partnership with SMEs from the business as well as BTS.  As a result, a strong understanding of the business is required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree ; preferrable in Data Analytics and Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, related field.
  • Experience with statistical packages / languages such as R, SPSS, SAS, MatLab, or MiniTab
  • Experience and strength with at least one programming language such as C++, C#, or Python, or Java.
  • Experience with implementing machine intelligence algorithms and model implementation using agile practices preferred. 
  • Experience in the systems development, implementation, and operations of a large-scale, enterprise systems. Excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to effectively lead and facilitate meetings with customers and technical team members. Must be deliverables focused and detail oriented. Must exhibit exceptional teamwork skills. Must have a strong customer focus.
  • Experience in Manufacturing preferred
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma or Operational Excellence methodologies also an advantage
