What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Analyst, State Tax position at AbbVie?
The Senior State Tax Analyst, Tax Controversy role will work with Tax Counsel colleagues and the Global Tax team on state and local income and indirect tax examinations. This role requires coordination with the broader Corporate Tax and Finance functions on multiple examinations, analysis and assessment of complex disputed tax issues, and communicating status and recommendations to Tax Counsel leadership. Additionally, the Senior State Tax Analyst will take a lead role in conducting state tax research and may assist with federal tax examinations, special projects, and ad hoc projects.
Key Responsibilities Include:
· Assist on multiple state examinations, ensuring information request deadlines are met, process controls are successfully and consistently executed, and examinations are driving toward efficient and timely resolutions.
· Independently collect and review requisite documentation and prepare responses to state and local income and indirect tax information requests.
· Collaborate closely with other functions within the Corporate Tax organization and Finance regarding facts to support responses to tax authorities.
· Research and analyze complex tax issues, interpreting and applying the tax law, regulations, and cases to specific transactions and factual situations, including proactively identifying issues and potential resolutions.
· Draft closing memo detailing resolution of significant audit issues and documentation of the effect on the tax provision (e.g. cash tax payments, deferred tax asset utilization or reduction, FIN48 release, etc.).
· Effectively communicate status of examinations to Tax Counsel leadership.
· Evaluate processes, identify process improvement opportunities and manage their implementation.
Skills and Experience
Basic:
- B.A./B.S. in Accounting/Finance required.
- 3 Years related experience beyond the degree or Masters plus related experience.
Preferred:
- CPA and/or MST a plus.
- Public Accounting or Fortune 500 Corporate Tax experience preferred.
- Corptax software and SAP experience desirable.
- State indirect tax and/or federal income tax experience desirable.
