Job Purpose: We are looking for a talented Director, Research to join our team. You will be the leader of a centralized CX & UX Research team as well as part of the larger Product Design & Creative team.
The ideal candidate for this role will be a researcher and people leader capable of driving the overall CX & UX research strategy across the Product, Design, and Engineering organizations that support our users, business, and underlying technology. You’ll lead research operations to support research as a regular practice throughout the product development cycle. Achieving this goal requires close collaboration with business leaders and stakeholders throughout the organization. Most of all, you’ll be part of a tight-knit team that enjoys solving big problems together.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Drive the operational research strategy, owning and evolving a holistic research process throughout the organization that spans the end-to-end user journey across all audiences
- Identify unmet research opportunities and stakeholder needs that can add value and efficiently execute them
- Fully execute research projects from initial kick off to fielding/interviewing to sharing findings as a primary researcher
- Evolve and maintain the UX Research Ops strategy to help guide teams when conducting generative (ethnographic) and evaluative (usability testing) research studies
- Develop UX Research artifacts including quantitative survey design, research briefs, moderator guides, and results summaries
- Recruit and maintain lists of targeted research participants from internal and external sources
- Maintain close partnership with Marketing and Product teams to support research efforts, identify needs, gather business requirements, and maintain a central research repository
- Lead and influence teams through generating actionable insights that both fuel ideation and evaluate designs, while juggling multiple projects with dependencies on internal teams
- Serve as the voice of the customer and act as a customer experience advocate who is passionate about observing and understanding our users
- Apply and further develop your experience in developing new approaches to qualitative research based on industry best practices
- Evangelize research internally and externally to diverse audiences
- Recruit and develop extraordinary talent, by coaching, managing and mentoring a team of researchers
Skills and Requirements
- 10 years of experience managing teams and conducting formal product research
- MA/MS Degree in HCI, Psychology, Social Science, Interaction Design, Statistics or related field of study (or work experience in lieu of degree)
- Mastery of research tools (Qualtrics, Usertesting.com)
- Expertise in diverse set of qualitative and user-centered research methods
- Deep knowledge and experience running qualitative research methodologies used throughout each stage of the product development cycle (i.e. Ethnographic Studies, Moderated 1:1 Interviews, Focus Groups, Competitive Analysis, Benchmark studies, etc.)
- Familiar with quantitative research methods and ability to integrate quantitative data with user research
- Basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis
- Comfort operating autonomously with strong experience creating personas and synthesizing research findings elegantly and efficiently
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities and effectively deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic agile environment
- Respectful when challenging assumptions and give and receive feedback with equal grace
- Estimate work, commit and deliver on deadlines and are vocal when risk arises
- Team player that enjoys collaborating cross functionally and working with a great group of people who genuinely care about our users and each other
