Your Role
Draws blood from patients or donors in hospital, blood bank, or similar facility for analysis or other medical purposes by performing the following duties.
Our phlebotomists also:
- Assembles equipment such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray according to requirements for specified tests or procedures.
- Verifies or records identity of patient or donor and converses with patient or donor to allay fear of procedure.
- Applies tourniquet to arm, locates accessible vein, swabs puncture area with antiseptic, and inserts needle into vein to draw blood into collection tube or bag.
- Withdraws needle, applies treatment to puncture site, and labels and stores blood container for subsequent processing.
- Pricks finger to draw blood.
- Conducts interviews, takes vital signs, and draws and tests blood samples to screen donors at blood bank.
- Must report to the lab 15 minutes before the first scheduled patient. Schedule must be agreed upon and approved by office team lead.

What we would like for you to have:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Competency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel. Experience with Lab Track and Lab Medcome (LIS).
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in a typical healthcare services office environment and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
