JOB SUMMARY:  

Under the direction of the Director of Purchasing, this position is responsible for purchasing function of the assigned region and providing support for the sales and project managers. This role is responsible for processes such as price negotiations, vendor solicitation, vendor performance and managing the purchasing department staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages up to six direct reports. Demonstrate a track record of success in building effective teams and interpersonal relationships while steadfastly pushing self and others for results
  • Work with PMs as requested for pre-bid buyouts. Suggest strategy on a job-by-job basis.
  • Negotiate purchases for Major Equipment and Subcontracts on jobs up to $1,000,000, Larger jobs after review with either the Purchasing Director or Assistant Director.
  • Maintain a strong presence and relationship with Project Managers (PMs), Engineering and Vendors.
  • Reviews POs and subcontracts for typos, scope accuracy, contractual language and ethical issues.
  • Conduct weekly meetings (formal or informal) with office staff as needed to ensure;
  • Subcontracts are being processed timely
  • POs are being processed timely
  • Bonds as required are received prior to execution of PO or subcontract
  • Make himself aware of issues which may present themselves to the staff
  • Build teamwork while fostering a collaborative work environment with both internal and external customers.
  • Create monthly reports for review with the Director of Purchasing including:
  • Cost Analysis
  • Commodity (Copper, Steel, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron, PVC)
  • Major Equipment (Fan Coils, WC Chillers, BMES Pump, CT, Copper Fin Boiler)
  • Vendor changes
  • Line Card Changes
  • Representative Changes
  • Vendor problems
  • Suggested vendor meetings
  • PM concerns and suggested PM meetings
  • Back charge Log
  • Review incoming buyouts
  • Work with PMs as requested for pre-bid buyouts. Suggest strategy on a job-by-job basis.
  • Handle all back charges in Southern California.
  • Maintain the google doc spreadsheet identifying all BCs
  • Maintain the back charge folder structure in Dropbox
  • Review all pending back charges with Purchasing Director monthly
  • Other duties as assigned by upper management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A bachelor's degree in construction management or similar discipline
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in purchasing procurement activities in the construction industry strongly preferred. 
  • Previous experience with purchasing large projects and contract compliance.
  • Experience with MS Windows environment, including proficiencies with Word and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge and application of purchasing process from start to finish.
  • HVAC or similar industry experience is preferred but not required.
  • Management experience preferred.

  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
  • The employee may regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision and Distance vision.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • The employee is regularly required to walk and sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl (for purposes of filling photocopier/printers).
  • As the employee maintains and orders supplies to the Project Group, the employee is occasionally required to reach above shoulder height to access storage cabinets and mail cubicles.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Regular and routine attendance.

HOURS:

Monday through Friday beginning between 6:00 am and 7:00 am and ending between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm, with one hour for lunch. Eight hours per day is required, and occasional overtime may be necessary due to business needs.

TRAVEL:

O – 5% of the time to and from the assigned office location to regional branch offices and/or to project/customer site(s).

COMPETITIVE WAGES:

$89,500 - $122,750 Annual Salary. Applicants please note that actual compensation is determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location, among others. The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensation.
