This exciting new position is open with an because the current Lab Manager was promoted! They are looking to have someone start as a Lead Lab Coordinator while the current Lab Manager is transitioning, and then this role will quickly take over for the Lab Manager. This team is supporting new and innovative research on infectious diseases and works with teams across the US and overseas. Candidates would be responsible for the organization and maintenance of the lab and its personnel based across the globe. That will include study management progress monitoring, site visit reports, quality control of data generated by the lab, and overall support of laboratory testing and assays.
Fundamental Responsibilities:
• Handle administrative tasks such as testing paperwork, submission of annual permits, software licenses and account usernames and passwords. (10% or 4 hours)
• Performs data analysis and assists faculty members with manuscript writing. Present research findings to staff, leadership, and external partners or conferences. (10-15% or 4-6 hours)
• Prepares study-related progress monitoring report for monthly teleconference meetings and on-site visit report with study coordinator for active studies. Troubleshoot communication barriers (technology, email access etc.) with international collaborators. (15-20% or 6-8 hours)
• Organize and maintain clinical samples, inventories, and databases using multiple systems. Quality control of data generated by lab members. Ship samples to collaborators. Order and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment, including coordination, ordering, and shipping for international partner labs. (20% or 8 hours)
• Supervise research technicians and students in standard procedures, methods, and techniques and serve as a resource to laboratory personnel. Orient students to lab and monitor day to day activities and experiments of new lab members. Train lab personnel as needed and ensure laboratory compliance with safety guidelines through the creation, implementation, and enforcement of standard operating procedures. (20% or 8 hours)
• Create and implement/oversee aliquoting schemes; conduct DNA extractions, PCR, and ELISA experiments; and help with cell and parasite cultures. (20% or 8 hours)
Qualifications:
1) Bachelor Degree in a Science field
2) At least 2 years working in a laboratory after or outside of schooling
3) Minimum of 1 year experience with sample management
4) At least 6 months experience overseeing 5 staff OR with research studies
5) Strong communication and computer skills
