What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Designer position at Actalent?
Individuals in this position will provide drafting support
for the engineering department and coordinate field activities during the
implementation of
projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Produce and modify drawings using AutoCAD (P&ID’s, PFD’s, isometrics,
arrangements, layouts, scale drawings)
2. Layout systems including metal and glass lined pipe, retrofits, and equipment of all types.
3. Apply knowledge of plant engineering standards, drafting standards and plant process equipment.
4. Effectively communicate both in writing and verbally.
5. Assist the engineers with project implementation by procuring basic components such as valves, expansion joints, pressure gages, filter housings, etc.
6. Serve as the interface during project implementation between the engineering department and other groups such as contractors, production, and maintenance personnel.
7. Provide safety orientations for contract workers, monitor their work for unsafe practices, and correct as necessary.
8. Apply a thorough understanding of the drawing filing system to enable the finding and reproduction of drawings for engineering and the rest of the plant.
9. SAFETY – Adhere to all plant safety policies and compliance regulations. Actively participate in the safety process through completing of safety audits, participating in safety projects, identifying Site Hazards and contributing to safety improvements, and being an attending member of a safety team.
Complete annual safety training as required.
10. RESPONSIBLE CARE:
a. Be aware of the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care Management System (RC-14001) and follow plant procedures to ensure compliance to requirements.
b. Understand the RC-14001 Significant Aspects of your job and help ensure controls are in place to reduce or eliminate negative impacts.
c. Take actions and identify and communicate ideas to minimize waste, prevent pollution and conserve energy.
d. Contribute to continuous improvement of the plant environmental, health, safety, security, and Responsible Care performance and programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
1. Must have a high school diploma (or equivalent)
2. Possess experience with industrial plant design and construction.
3. Possess a sound working knowledge of AutoCAD and basic office software (word processor, spreadsheet, and internet browser).
Preferred:
1. Knowledge of welding, coatings, and mechanical design.
2. Knowledge & experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D
