Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations. Responsibilities include experiencing doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, and more. The role also involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection clearly, demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles, understanding physicians' orders, matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order, and ensuring all test requisitions are 100% correct. Additionally, packaging specimens for transport, storing specimen samples according to required temperature, following specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity, understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations, and answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries are also key tasks.

Work Site
This is a fully on-site position in Fairfax, Virginia.
Work Environment
This position offers part-time hours in a family practice setting. Work hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 12pm, with Wednesday starting at 9am. Saturday work is very rare and would be from 9am to 12pm as needed.
