Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
The Phlebotomist provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. Their ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort to patients across a wide demographic is critical to our commitment to high quality care for our patients and those of our partners. Duties may include experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, and more. The role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection clearly but courteously, demonstrating technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles, fully understanding all of the physicians' orders, matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order, packaging specimens for transport, storing specimen samples according to required temperature, accurately labeling, following different procedures as outlined by specific protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen, understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations, wearing appropriate attire, attending annual department trainings, answering telephone calls, reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries, and performing other duties as assigned.
