What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Assurance Lead position at Actalent?
Description:
- Performs basic sensory, physical, and chemical tests on finished products.
- Evaluates Bill of Material (BOM) for completeness and proper documentation.
- Performs cook-ups and organoleptic reviews on raw materials and finished goods to assure they meet established requirements.
- Records test data and maintains laboratory work list in LIMS system.
- Reports nonconformance with immediate corrective actions in LIMS system.
- Gathers data and presents to QS management to help making product disposition decisions and to determine root cause of issues
- Makes less critical decisions that does not affect food safety in order to ensure timely release of finished products
- Reviews worklist frequently to ensure all testing are completed timely and workflow is maintained
- Leads the QS Technicians to ensure overall workflow management in the QS Laboratory
- Helps plant QS Management with customer complaint investigation by data gathering, investigation and testing.
- Performs required inspection for manufacturing equipment, storage equipment, and sanitation cleaning.
- Participates in check sample program with outside institution(s) and in internal proficiency program to verify accuracy.
- Follows proper GMPs and GLPs.
- Uses proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary.
- Assists with Raw Material testing, COA review, and COA filing as needed.
- Provides back-fill coverage in QS Scale positions.
- Completes process inspections and audits to ensure that compliance
- Assists with other Quality and Operations projects as needed.
- Supports Raw Material Coordinator on project work.
- Maintains standardized/calibration of quality control lab equipment(Chemical inventory, equipment calibrations, etc.).
- Prepares chemical solutions for use in processing materials, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
- Train New Hires to be proficient in QS work instructions and procedures in the lab.
- Communicate updates to QS technicians (all shifts) that pertain to day to day activities.
- Makes schedule changes within the department to ensure complete coverage during call off’s or vacation
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Four year degree in food science or science related fields or Associates degree with experience working in Quality/Food Safety
- Minimum of 4 years experience in a food testing laboratory.
- Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English Language
- Proficient in wet chemistry testing and a well rounded knowledge of food testing.
- Exposure and basic to advanced knowledge of proteins, UV-vis, and HPLC are a huge PLUS
