Actalent Services | Transmission Line Engineer (Remote work with occasional local site travel)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· Responsible for the engineering and design activities related to Transmission Line Engineering such as engineering analysis and design, route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, and project and construction management.
· Prepare project construction documents such as: plan and profile drawings; design drawings; engineering, material, and construction specifications; project schedules and bills of material.
· Develop project design alternatives and corresponding cost estimates.
· Design new transmission line facilities with voltages ranging between 69 kV and 765 kV.
· Utilize PLS-CADD to model transmission line design projects.
· Attend contractor bid and construction meetings and assist in ensuring that work activities are performed safely and in accordance with plans and established schedules, and in accordance with company policies, rules, and standards, and in compliance with external regulations.
· Coordinate effectively with governmental and regulatory agencies and contractors.
· Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or external entities to complete transmission projects.
· Identify and initiate corrective action when transmission line project objectives are not being met.
· Interpret codes and develop standards for construction projects.
· Promote engineering professionalism and standards.
· Develop, recommend, and implement plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements that include all scheduling, resources, and information for
complex engineering.
· Position will require occasional travel for site visits within an hour of Phoenix, Arizona
Education and Experience Requirements
· Experience in utilities working with transmission line design, completing engineering projects from start to finish & scoping, estimating, and ordering materials for transmission lines projects.
· Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or electrical engineering (ABET)
· Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate adhering to project schedule and budget.
· Advanced understanding of standards and codes such as IEEE, ANSI, NEC and NESC
· Possess advanced understanding of equipment, material, ordering, and bills of material for substation construction.
· Possess ability to understand interrelationship between systems and component equipment.
