All senior staff members have graduate-level degrees in the behavioral sciences and extensive experience in survey and sampling methods, strategy development and research designs.
Position Summary
This position is intended to lead the development and implementation of research methods and statistical analyses that support audience research, pilot testing, and evaluation phases of behavior change outreach campaigns in the domains of environment, health, and public safety. The Research Manager is responsible for supervising research staff, managing research activities, and maintaining efficient use of resources to meet research objectives. The position is also responsible for oversight of staff development activities related to the research capacities of the organization.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications
· Master’s degree in behavioral science (e.g., social psychology, conservation psychology, behavioral economics, or closely related discipline).

· 2 years post-degree experience applying quantitative and qualitative research methods.

· 4 years of experience managing research projects and teams.

· Knowledge of survey development and administration practices across multiple modes.

· Familiarity with community-based social marketing (training or coursework preferred).

· Specific experience in behavioral research related to health, safety, or environment is preferred.

· Demonstrated expertise in process management and improvement.

· Demonstrated proficiency writing detailed reports and presenting results.

· Proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehension of the English language.

· Strong computer literacy is required in MS Office including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.

· Strong skills using an analytical statistical package such as SPSS, SAS, or R.

· Strong project management skills, including staffing and budget management.
Primary Responsibilities
Research Development and Implementation

· Conducts literature reviews to summarize relevant knowledge, theory, and methodologies pertaining to environment, health, or public safety behaviors.

· Designs and implements qualitative and quantitative research methods to prioritize target behaviors and identify barriers and benefits to desired behaviors.

· Develops qualitative and quantitative research tools including interview and focus group guides, surveys, and observational research protocols.

· Coordinates and oversees outside research services (e.g., call centers, sample providers).

· Identifies research and sampling methods appropriate to project needs.

· Plans and conducts pilot tests that utilize experimental designs or quasi-experimental designs.

· Identifies metrics that adequately assess behavior change.

· Develops detailed analysis plans.

· Organizes, processes, and analyzes data using a variety of statistical techniques including multiple regression and analysis of variance.

· Prepares oral, written, and graphical presentations of research findings.

· Clearly communicates complex research topics to organizational staff and clients.

· Provides direction at key milestones, including troubleshooting methodological challenges.

· Monitors project costs and ensures projects are completed within budget.

· Communicates project status, obstacles, and research process to clients.

· Ensures timeliness and quality of project deliverables.

· Ensures client satisfaction with project deliverables.

· Ensures all client requests and correspondence receive a timely response.

Business Development

· Establishes and cultivates relationships with clients.

· Actively seeks and responds to opportunities to secure new contracts.

· Actively stays on top of recent trends and publications in relevant research methodologies.

Management

· Supervises research team of 3 – 5 staff; hires new staff as appropriate

· Assists in setting the research staffs’ schedule.

· Ensures that staff is fully utilized and that work assignments are balanced across all members.

· Identifies and implements process improvement opportunities, with approval from President.

· Identifies and implements professional development opportunities for research staff, with approval from President.

· Contributes to the development of policies and procedures.

Position Requirements

· Reliable transportation and current driver’s license and insurance;

· Ability to pass a background check;
