JAIL ADMINISTRATOR/CORRECTIONS DIRECTOR
Summary:
Performs advanced managerial work in a correctional facility. Work involves administering policies and procedures in accordance with local, state and federal laws and regulations, to include custody, discipline, and welfare of offenders in the facility; and planning, assigning, and supervising the work of others.
Responsibilities:
⮚ Plan, coordinate and direct the total administrative and programmatic activities of the facility.
⮚ Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance, and implement organizational and personnel actions in accordance with the Agency policies and procedures.
⮚ As a Member of Command Staff, assist in developing and implementing new and revised policies and procedures affecting finance, food service, health services, maintenance, security, education, and recreation. Ensure each policy and procedure is reviewed annually.
⮚ Review shift assignments for corrections staff to ensure all shifts are adequately staffed to meet requirements of facility procedures.
⮚ Monitor staff selection process of potential employees to ensure adherence to all applicable laws, agency policy and state regulations and select qualified applicants to fill vacancies as needed.
⮚Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and de-escalation techniques.
⮚ Maintain accountability of staff, inmates, and property; adhere to safety practices.
Knowledge and Skills
1. Knowledge of the overall operation of correctional facilities.
2. Knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes.
3. Knowledge of correctional methods, techniques, practices, and procedures.
4. Knowledge of organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
preferred.
5. Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
6. Skill in administrative problem-solving techniques.
7. Skill in the supervision of employees and offenders.
8. Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
9. Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, organizations, and the public.
10. Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
Education and Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or Supervisory experience and certification by
the Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission preferred.
2. High School Diploma or Equivalent plus five (5) years of experience in corrections
or law enforcement.
3. Valid Driver's License
4. No Felony Convictions

A. Conditions include working inside and outside, excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness and chill, dry atmosphere, excessive or intermittent noise, constant noise, fumes, smoke, gasses, grease, oils, dust, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, working at heights, working on ladders, or scaffolding working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours and using chemical agents.
C. Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, radio, handcuffs, waist and leg restraints, oleoresin capsicum spray and conducted energy weapons, cameras and various locking systems.
D. Be able to discriminate, recognize, organize, remember and understand the information received from seeing, hearing, smelling and touching.
E. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
