What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airfield Project Designer position at ADB Safegate?
The Airfield Project Designers main area of competence lies in defining the design of airside systems for airports based on national and international aeronautical standards, specifications, processes and customer specifications and drawings.
Based on the design criteria and on the knowledge of ADB SAFEGATE products and systems, the Airfield Project Designer performs the design which results in the submission of compliancy documents, design reports, layout and installation detail drawings, bills of quantities and equipment descriptions including all mounting and installation accessories required.
The Airfield Project Designers activities take place during bidding stage and during project realization phase. The designer will prove to be competent, reliable and fully able to present, defend and discuss the design with customers and consultants. The Designer must also be capable of following the ADB Safegate design procedures. The Designer shall also help develop, improve and use the airfield system design tools.
Job Description
- Lead design activities during bid stage and during project realisation stage.
- Master ACAD version 2016 or higher and use it in the most efficient way.
- Work in close co-operation as a team with the fellow designers and deliver preliminary design as well as detailed design information to the bid and project managers.
- Perform the necessary calculations and validation of power ratings of for regulators, transformers, generator sets and UPSs providing power to the Airfield equipment, especially the airfield lighting.
- Perform necessary calculations of Approach lighting profiles and PAPI locations.
- Generate design reports justifying and defending the design decisions taken.
- With the assistance of a Design Technician, create general layout drawings and provide details of quantities of lights and primary and secondary cables.
- With the assistance of a Design Technician, create detailed construction & installation drawings (initial design & as built) based on ADB Safegate products and systems.
- Based on data obtained from tender(s) or own design, generate the required Bill Of Quantities (BOQ) in line with the design criteria set by the customer(s).
- Undertake thorough reviews of airfield system designs, especially AGL and VDGS designs, completed by others.
- Review and validate drawings done by others or oneself prior to submission in tenders or for project execution.
- Support the system engineers in preparing submittal documents (layout of control cabinets, block diagrams and overview drawings) for airfield lighting control systems.
- With the assistance of a Design Technician, generate schemes, exploded views or detailed drawings on request from marketing or sales, supporting the technical documentation of products and systems.

Education
- Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Specific Computer Aided Design training
- Specific training on airfield systems
IT-Skills
- Practical experience in the use of computer aid design package (ACAD 2016 or higher)
- Knowledge of other CAD tools such as REVIT, SolidWorks, Civil AutoCAD and/or ePLAN
- High knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook .)
