DevOps Manager - UK

Job Title:                   DevOps Manager

Location:                   Manchester office, UK

Contract type:           Permanent

Direct Reports:          DevOps Engineering Team

Business Line:          Airport Systems – Providing systems to optimize processes and advanced data analytics for actionable insights to improve airport performance. 

The opportunity 

As the DevOps Manager you will have responsibility for developing strategic initiatives and producing roadmaps to provide secure Operating System and Hardened COTS images to all areas of the business. 

You will support the DevOps team helping to drive the adoption of DevOps technologies and processes including continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), infrastructure as code, and pipeline as a product to aid in the advancement of DevOps operations. You will take an active role mentoring other members of the team and the wider organisation. You will also be responsible for the management of DevOps budgets and ensuring your team allocates time appropriately between continuous improvement, projects and bids. 

Cost analysis of spend with cloud providers and determining strategies to reduce overall monthly spend. 

Work with Bids teams to deliver input to the design, build, configuration, and provisioning of software solutions and to provide accurate costs for hardware software and T&M as part of the submittal process. 

Support of Azure and VMware environments for both internal and external customers.

• Maintenance and Support of Azure and VMware infrastructure 

• Develop security hardened Operating System templates and automated testing to enable rapid software product deployment 

• Develop infrastructure as code templates to deploy complete cloud and on-premise solutions to customers 

• To support other teams within the business to deliver customer projects on time and within budget  

• To provide support to the bids function for specific opportunities as defined with the Opportunity Management Framework 

• Create technical roadmaps to align OS and COTS with internal software release schedules 

• Produce reference architectures and standardise solutions to streamline efficiencies within the business 

• Work on ways to automate and improve processes 

• Mitigate against Cybersecurity threats by ensuring systems are safe, secure and compliant to best practice recommendations, including CIS compliance and compliance with the NIST Secure Software Development Framework 

• Coach/mentor others within the business 

The talent we want to inspire has.. 

Essential 

• High level of technical proficiency within Cloud Infrastructure providers including Amazon Web Services and Azure. 

• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools (e.g., GIT) 

• Good working knowledge of Linux/Unix environment including kickstart installation process 

• Scripting knowledge including bash, batch, PowerShell 

• Experience working with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Azure DevOps 

• Experience of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible and Terraform 

• Experience of security lifecycle management 

• Experience of defining, deploying and maintaining business continuity solutions 

• Experience of designing/deploying a range of systems to meet varying SLA and capacity requirements 

• Strong documentation skills 

• Extensive knowledge of Azure 

• Proficient in the use of VMware technologies, including vSAN. 

This would be a plus but not a must! 

• Experience in cloud migrations. 

• Airport operational knowledge. 

• Networking experience. 

• Service availability monitoring toolsets. 

• Experience of bid processes.

• To take an active involvement and be a leader in the decision-making process  

• To remain up to date on new and emerging technologies to aid the continuous improvement of the DevOps team 

• Degree level qualification in IT or Computer Science related subject or significant professional experience as equivalent 

• Must be located within a reasonable commute time to the office in Manchester
