What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) position at Addus?
The speech therapist plans and provides for clients who have speech and language problems under the direction of the attending participation by the family, nurse or other reasonable person as necessary. All functions shall be performed in accordance with the plan of care and established policies and procedures of the agency. The speech therapist reports directly to the nursing supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Be eighteen (18) years of age or older
2. Must have a valid NM Driver's license
3. Must have reliable transportation available during work hours. Vehicle must be properly registered and insured in accordance with state law.
4. Must possess current CPR and First Aid Certification
5. Possess certification of clinical competence in speech from American speech, hearing association.
6. Be currently licensed as speech therapist in the state in which practicing.
7. Possess US citizenship or evidence of a valid alien work permit.
8. Possess and maintain good physical and mental health including current TB testing(refer to health screening policy)
9. Have at least one (1) years' experience in an acute care setting or equivalent experience.
10. Have demonstrated professional behavior and appearance.
11. Have demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment.
12. Possess knowledge of principles and practices of speech therapy.
13. Have demonstrated ability to function in an unstructured home setting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Adhere to dress code
2. Adhere to work schedule and maintain good punctuality and attendance record
3. Assist the physician in evaluating level of function.
4. Participate in the development of the plan of care.
5. Administer diagnostic speech and language evaluations and some basic, informal audio logical assessment in accordance with the plan of care.
6. Prepare a report of each client's diagnostic evaluation and make recommendations.
7. Prepare clinical and progress notes.
8. Advise, consult and teach appropriate procedures and supportive activities to client, family members and other agency staff.
9. Provide direct speech service to clients under a physician's plan of care. Records and reports to the physician the client's response to therapy. Assists physician in evaluating level of function and helps develop plan of care.
10. Maintain appropriate records of visits including evaluation and plan of care of speech clients.
11. Assist in coordinating the speech therapy program through the nurse and care conferences.
12. Participate in in-service programs.
13. Serve on the clinical record review committee.
14. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary.
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Satisfactory completion of pre-employment health screening if applicable, including drug screening.
2. Satisfactory completion of background check in accordance with State of New Mexico Caregivers Criminal History Screening Program.
PHYSICAL OR ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
Light to moderate. Must be adaptable to a variety of environments and community settings. Must be able to drive in all types of weather.
EXPECTED WORK HOURS:
Varies by agency needs; Typically Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On-call hours required as needed and assigned by department supervisor.
