About the role:
We are pivoting the Gumtree platform into an exciting new direction. We are looking for a Principal Product Manager - Key Verticals with a strong background in product and business development to drive it! This role will suit an entrepreneurial minded individual, who has planted seeds of new businesses in the past or is keen to develop their own business in the future. You will bring a lot of experience and a network from previous roles, you will be the go-to person within Gumtree as it comes down to the commercial development of our key verticals. In the near future you will also be managing and mentoring more junior PMs.
Your objective is to further mature existing verticals, being Pets and Jobs. As well as to plant seeds for new verticals, we need you to help us define which ones those are.
The role has both strategic as well as operational focus which we will further explain below.
Strategic
As Principal Product Manager you will take the lead in further defining our product and growth strategy in our Key Verticals. You will map the market, assess the competitive landscape, identify potential partners and build understanding of the customers struggles and needs in these verticals.
Reporting into our Chief Product Officer and working closely with our Executive Leadership team you will be setting the strategy for the years to come. You will define the problem at hand and the measures of success. Together with the lead UX designer you are responsible for designing, validating, evaluating customer journeys for new and existing users. Together with your technology peers you will shape loose defined ideas to specific proposals.
Operational
You will be bridging the gap between Data, Design, Growth, Customer Support, Commercial and Technology to implement these new strategies. You have a data driven approach in driving adoption and usage, you have experience with A/B testing and know how to optimise online funnels
You will be working in a scrum-team with a UX designer, Analyst and Engineers to deliver value to our users and business every sprint.
In partnership with our Growth team you will drive the acquisition and retention of customers within the key verticals. You will monitor & improve the product experience based on quantitative data and qualitative insights to reach ambitious targets.
Also you will be managing relations with external partners, for example for the pets vertical you will be managing the relation with our Pet insurance partner and the RSPCA.
How this role contributes:
- Work closely with the CPO and Executive Leadership team to define the product strategy and roadmap
- Build a deep understanding of the competitive landscape and identify opportunities to grow our key verticals from a customer and commercial perspective
- Set the tone on product discovery work such as design thinking, user testing and prototyping.
- Monitor business metrics and track progress against them
- Use data and insights to provide recommendations to drive growth
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to identify commercial opportunities, customer needs and improve customer satisfaction levels.
- Establish and manage relationships with external partners
- Work in partnership with the Technology team squads to ensure delivery of roadmaps, prioritising the backlog as well as working to remove blockers and mitigate risks.
- Clearly communicate discovery and delivery plans, reporting regular updates and highlighting any delivery issues that need to be addressed.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring:
- 4 years experience in a similar role (ie. Product Manager, Business Owner, Product Marketing Manager)
- Proven experience working with marketplaces, eCommerce or as business owner will be highly advantageous
- Bsc/ Msc in Product, Technology, Marketing, Business or similar
- Analytically strong and data savvy with experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods
- Strategic thinker with a can-do mentality, proven to have experience in concept development and delivery
- Strong communication and presentation skills, you don’t stay in the shadows, you have the ability to visualise, shape and communicate in a way that gets buy in
- You show genuine commitment, creativity and are reliable and responsible
- Above all you are a team player, you thrive by getting things done together!
- As Pets is one of our Key Verticals, having a Pet is a plus (we can discuss you bringing your furry friend to our office)
