Automation Engineer

Overview: Diversified Machine Systems (DMS) is an American manufacturer of 3 and 5 axis CNC routers, along with custom commissioned CNC machine builds. The Innovation Department plays a dualistic role that includes software engineering and R&D. As part of the innovation department, you can expect to be challenged to think critically and solve problems in new ways. Our department’s job is to provide our machine tools with the capabilities needed to compete in an increasingly technology-heavy market while maintaining safe working conditions for our customers and in-house staff.

Facilitate progress and augment capability of the Innovation department and DMS. This unique role will demand high level knowledge of DMS machine products, components, and associated software, coupled with an emphasis on communication and time management.

• • Compile initial software builds for machine startups. (Includes PLC scripts, OEM macros, initial parameter settings, etc.)
  • Work with the Innovation team and other engineering departments to ensure all builds have complete and accurate initial software builds ahead of machine turn on.
  • Contribute to logic library with improvements to current logic to achieve greater safety, more intelligent design, increase user experience, and/or increase machine productivity.
  • Some technical writing: produce procedural documentation for customers (internal and external) and technical notes on department developments and progress.
  • Troubleshoot live machine systems to help identify and resolve build errors.
  • Work with all internal and external customers (Finishing dept., Service dept., and clients) to ensure projects achieve scope, function, and overall vision.
  • Identify opportunities to develop new software or hardware features to better position DMS competitively in the CNC market.
  • Test, develop, and provide feedback on new technologies for DMS products.

Qualifications

Education/Skills/Physical Jon Requirements

• Degree in Engineering (Electrical / Mechanical / Software), Mechatronics or related, or equivalent experience working with CNC tools and/or automation equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
• Strong electro–mechanical systems aptitude.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills required.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have the ability to learn and configure software systems for later resale to customers and/or integration with CNC machines.
• Experience with CAD software is a plus.
• Must have solid customer service skills.
• Must be able to work effectively with little or no supervision.
• Must be willing to travel to customer locations and deploy software systems.  
• Must be willing to work in areas with high levels of noise such as factories.
• Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
• Some travel to Italy will be required, so passport is required.
