Wabtec is expanding and recruiting for Welders to join our team that rebuilds locomotives for trains! (Multiple Positions Available)
DUTIES:
- Produce high quality welded products for many types of products and materials.
- Safely set up and use automatic, semi-automatic or manual welding equipment.
- Handle flat, horizontal and vertical welding equipment.
- Weld materials range from 8 mils to unlimited thickness, producing any type and size weld with ferrous or non-ferrous metals.
- Work from drawings, weld procedure specifications and operating procedures.
- Handle materials as needed by hand, crane, truck cranes, jib, forklift, cutting tools or other handling equipment. In addition to set up and lay out work to maximize efficiencies.
- Make an acceptable welds, provide a Level I visual examination, and liquid penetrate examination as required to assure part fit-up and weld sizes meet drawings and other code requirements.
- Perform other duties as requested or required.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Previous Welding experience required
- Fluency in reading, speaking, and understanding English
- Required to understand American Welding Society (AWS) symbols
- Must be open to working rotating shifts
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Able to read and understand technical manuals, work reports, and schematics or drawings
- Good problem solving skills with keen attention to detail
- Thorough knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) O.E.M. maintenance instructions and procedures
Knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules - Welding certification preferred
Note: A sign on bonus may be provided if you meet eligibility guidelines

- Determine from drawings, information or standard practice, the welding sequence, type and size of electrode, machine settings and tools required.
- Perform fit up and related layout, and welding.
- Make allowance for distortion during fit up and weld.
- Change gas cylinders, wire reels, cables, gas lines, wire holder and wire.
Wiring Principal Duties
- Follow wiring diagrams/schematics to connect electrical cabling accurately and timely.
- Perform wiring sequence for point to point direct or harness wiring.
- Wire mounting panels and junction boxes per documentation/instructions.
- Create or re-wire harnesses and cables per documentation.
General Duties
- Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
- Ability to fabricate small components.
- Complete production and quality assurance forms
- Participate actively in team meetings and group discussions.
- Interface with engineering to accurately communicate information.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement activities or events as required.
- Adhere to Quality Management System Requirements
- 5S activities
- Ability to read and comprehend procedures written in English.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3-5 years of experience welding in a custom build shop preferred
- Technical Skills
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Ability to operate a computer to read and input data.
- Ability to operate hand tools and read measuring devices.
- Ability to read and interpret 3D prints/schematics to complete standard work.
