UX Design Director – Internal Applications Job Description
We are looking for a UX Director to join our design team that is embedded with our Cupertino based client. The role will be a combination of hands on design and design team leadership for a team of 4 UX designer. The role is focused on the internal applications that our client uses for publishing its online store and managing its customer call center.
- The role will be approximately 80% UX and 20% visual design focused and about 50/50 between designing and managing the other designers and reviewing their designs
- Requires a strong thinker who is comfortable working on complex flows, creating wireframes and UX documentation
- Will need have solid visual design skills as everything needs to meet a high-bar for look and feel
- Strong experiences with designing for web and mobile internal applications (desktop and mobile)
The candidate should have:
- 7-15 years of applicable experience
- Ability to develop and encourage other designers
- Expertise developing flows, IAs, wireframes and design comps
- eCommerce experience is a major plus, but should at least have complex transactional and/or workflow based work
- Must be expert with Sketch
- Able to present and defend their designs to all levels of executives
- Great attention to detail
- Experience localizing designs
- Ability to work collaboratively with other designers, product managers and engineers
The preference is for this role to be Cupertino based but can be remote.

Position Summary The Director UX will lead the User Experience team on digital product design & strategy creating products used by millions of people every day. They oversee cross-functional teams through research, strategy development, concepting, product definition, and design. In addition to a team lead, we need someone who can be a strategic product owner, a team player, and a skilled client partner.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage, develop, mentor and recruit experience design talent
o Participate in local events to develop a network of experience designers, interaction designers, and product managers
- Work with creative, account, and project management leadership to ensure engagements are structured to deliver quality work, on time and on budget
o Work with PMs to define project process, milestones, schedule, deliverables
- Participate in new business efforts, define an experience design perspective and process that will help win new clients and set client projects up for success
- Provide strategic oversight over experience design on client engagements
- Lead experience design on client projects:
o Conduct User interviews, stakeholder interviews, user testing, competitive analysis, work with strategy to develop insights and strategic briefo Create prototypes, wireframes, and other design artifacts to drive the experience design and definition of a project
Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct Reports- Hires, retains, trains, coaches, guides, directs, and develops direct reports using company-wide processes, tools and resources
Indirect Reports- May delegate work of others and provide guidance, direction and mentoring to indirect reports
Travel and/or Driving Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
The following are the minimum job-related qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the jobEducation Level: (Required): Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experienceField of Study/Area of Experience: Marketing, Advertising 10 years of experience in a UX/design/creative role within an agency environment.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Experience creating interfaces, large-scale digital experiences, or applications;
- Candidates must be well-versed in user-centered design methods and techniques;
- Risk taking in design, pushing past the obvious, and making something you love;
- Intermediate to expert level in: Sketch, InVision, Framer, Adobe CS or other tools for generating wireframes and specifications;
- Solid understanding of how mockups translate to code;
- Experience with senior clients. Someone who is an expert at handling themselves and our clients in every imaginable situation;
- Excellent analytical and process-oriented skills;
- Excellent verbal and written skills;
- Flexible and adaptable, able to change and alter according to changes in projects or business environment
- Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines
- Ability to complete multiple duties with accuracy shifting from one to another with frequent interruptions and competing deadlines

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment.
