ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION | AKRON, OHIO | ASSISTANT GIS SPECIALIST
We are looking for Assistant GIS Specialist to support project work in the Akron, Ohio area (title: Assistant GIS Specialist). This project work is related to Electrical Distribution (Utility). Great opportunity to get a "foot in the door" to a large Employee-Owned Construction Engineering Firm.
The Assistant GIS Specialist will work closely within functional teams to deliver GIS data and GIS services to our clients, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, customer commitment, sense of urgency, and continuous improvement. The candidates should display strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and written/oral communication skills. This position also require detail-oriented who can consistently meet deadlines and possess the ability to work independently as needed. Computer, interpersonal and customer service skills are necessary. Candidates must be able to multi-task and demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse work group of stakeholders.

- W2 Contract (potential for direct hire)
- Anticipate $22-$26/hr., based on experienced
- M-F, 40 hours per week, onsite (office)
- Travel requirements: expected 15%

Responsibilities:
- Support Client needs as directed
- Data mining detailed information from archive documents
- Converting MicroStation to AutoCAD
- Scanning printed drawings and maps for conversion into electronic formatting
- Support project managers, design engineers, environmental consultants, GIS mapping specialists.
- Efficient at working independently as well as in team environment
- Assist in updating of new and existing GIS maps and map layers. using ArcGIS in support of the utility network
- GIS metadata creation.
- Perform data research from various sources
- Perform georeferencing of raster and vector data.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelors degree in GIS or related field of study preferred but not required
- Experience working in the ArcGIS desktop environment is preferred but not required (ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 or higher is a plus).
- Experience working with MicroStation to AutoCAD preferred but not required
- Basic GIS skills, including data analysis abilities.
- Prior GPS and applicable natural science field experience a plus
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
- Utilize various software packages and information from various sources (MS Access databases, MS Excel spreadsheets and documents such as deeds, field notes etc.)
- Proficient in working with Google Earth, PDF viewer/editing programs, spreadsheets and other task tracking software preferred but not required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and detailed oriented
- Capable of working with diverse skill sets in fast paced environment
- Team player focused on Client service
- Well organized and able to simultaneously pursue and track multiple project efforts
- Valid drivers license required. Must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Companys vehicle driving privileges
