The role you’ll contribute:
The Risk Program Manager for Patient Rights and Ethics is a leader for decreasing risk of harm for patients, visitors, and staff, supporting patients’ rights and ethical treatment, improving the product through cooperation with all staff and leadership to exemplify the AdventHealth value of quality and service excellence. The Risk Program Manager for Patient Rights and Ethics is responsible for the assigned areas of the clinical risk management program. The Risk Program Manager for Patient Rights and Ethics collaborates with campus and system leadership, staff, and physicians to develop strategies to guard against threats of patient harm, promote quality care, and comply with applicable regulations and statutes. The Risk Program Manager for Patient Rights and Ethics is responsible for the day to day operations of the ethics program. This individual manages and participates in the Ethics Case Consultation Service and education of the ethics members and hospital staff. The Risk Program Manager for Patient Rights and Ethics will facilitate patient rights policies and standard operating procedures, as well as facilitating development and approval of standardized forms.

Develop and maintain a strong professional relationship with department staff and leaders, Patient Safety, and Quality team members to nurture a culture of risk, quality and safety.
Serves as a resource and educator for department staff, medical staff and clinical teams with regard to risk management and ethical issues (this includes on call for all campuses for off hours and holiday coverage) and develops educational in-services for employees and/or physicians on pertinent ethical issues, risk management, end of life and patient safety topics.
Lead for reviewing, revising, and developing assigned policies and standard operating procedures for the Patient Rights chapter as well as facilitator for development and approval of standardized consent and refusal forms. Consultant for the development and revisions of hospital policies and procedures with risk management implications.
Manage the identification, investigation, resolution and prevention of patient care-related grievances, including allegations of sexual misconduct / abuse, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Manage AHCA surveys and plan of corrections that are reportable to state agencies as well as DCF investigations involving the healthcare team.
Investigate and report to the Risk Management Senior Manager, and appropriate claims management coordinator, events which may or have become a potential compensatory event.
Analyze and report actionable risk events data and trends to the Risk Management Senior Manager and hospital leadership, for identification and development of risk reduction strategies.
Manage events, including Adverse / Code 15 incidents and Sentinel Event review, investigations, reporting, and disclosure requirements according to the Florida Statute 395.0197 and report actionable risk events data and trends to the Risk Management Senior Manager and hospital leadership, for identification and development of risk reduction strategies.
Responsible for a viable Biomedical Ethics Committee and subcommittees
Responsible for recruiting and educating Ethics Case Consultation Service members and manage the Ethics Case Consultation Service, to ensure 24/7 coverage at all campuses including facilitating ethics consult conferences.
Track and trends ethics case consults to identify process improvement and culture change opportunities.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Must be a Registered Nurse, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, Respiratory Therapist, Radiologic Technologist, Physician Assistant, Paramedic, or Pharmacist; A_ nd_
Three to five years clinical experience in a healthcare-related field,
OR
Three to five years’ experience in risk management field
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Religion or Healthcare
1 years’ experience facilitating Ethics Consults and/or Ethics committee
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Highly organized, self – motivated, excellent presenter and effective teaching skills
Understanding of medical terminology and technology, medical procedures and treatment.
Understanding of the ethical principles and the Ethics Decision Making model.
Knowledge and understanding of state and federal legislation, regulations and case law relevant to ethical issues and end of life decisions.
Ability to work well with staff, physicians and leadership across all departments and campuses.
Ability to prioritize a diverse workload and possess the ability to work under pressure and deadlines.
Ability to research, prepare comprehensive ethics reports and recommend successful strategies with ethical implications.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and computer programs utilized by the department.
Ability to conduct ethics consultation.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management or Certified Professional in Patient Safety preferred
