**The role you’ll contribute:**
This specially trained nurse assists the surgeon in performing surgical procedures. Responsibilities include planning, implementing and/or supervising the care of the endoscopy patient. Maintains a safe and aseptic environment during procedures. Responsible to adhere to the Adventist Health System Corporate Compliance Plan, and to all the rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

**PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES** **:**
· Utilizes his/her knowledge and skills in giving safe and effective nursing care. Maintains appropriate infection control measures and maintains a safe work/ patient environment.
· Implements physician orders which concern medications, treatment, and diagnostic measures including monitoring the patient during procedures utilizing moderate sedation.
· Maintains unit supply and equipment inventories as directed. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the endoscopy coordinator or nurse manager.
· Cares for specimens properly and handles their disposition/ delivery according to hospital/lab policy.
· Uses time, effort and materials economically. Floats to other surgical service units as patient/census needs require.
· Maintains thorough and complete record/ electronic documentation of each patient’s procedure according to established standard of care using Cerner and Endoworks.
· Knows the laws and their legal interpretation which influences the practice of nursing. Makes sound judgments in referring situations beyond his/her ability and/or scope of function to the proper person. Reviews policies and procedures as they relate to nursing functions in the endoscopy unit and recommends those changes. Participates in the development of unit goals and performance improvement. Communicates concerns to the appropriate personnel. Notifies endoscopy coordinator or nurse manager of potential ethical or legal issues.
· Accepts call so that the unit is covered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
· Responds to code situation within the department
·Assists in any other tasks as directed by the endoscopy coordinator or surgical services manager.
· Responsible to accrue continuing education credits, BLS, and ACLS.
· Demonstrates clinical competency specific to assisting physicians during endoscopic procedures. Provides direct patient care in the role of technical support under the direction of the physician. Demonstrates competent knowledge of the preparation and operation all technical and non-technical equipment and supplies utilized in endoscopic procedures.
· Assists in the terminal cleaning and re-sterilization of video and non- video endoscopes, equipment, procedures rooms, and re-stocks supplies. Assists in the recording and management of endoscope reprocessing records specific to all sterilization/high level disinfection equipment used within the endoscopy department. Prepares and maintains sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
· Assists in the positioning of the patient and equipment as directed. Assists in the transportation of patients to and from the endoscopy unit as directed.
· Demonstrates competency in all procedures within Scope of Practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patient, geriatric, adult, adolescent, and pediatric, maintains knowledge of growth and development with an understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patient.
**Qualifications**
**The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed** **:**
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:**
· Graduate from an accredited school of nursing,
· One to two years of general nursing experience in an acute care setting.
· Two to three years in the required specialty.
**_EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:_**
·
**LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:**
· BLS and ACLS required.
· Current registered nurse license with the Florida State Board of Examiners.
**_LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:_**
· CGRN/ CNOR preferred
