Job Summary :
Schedules patients for facility services based on the physician order received, including ancillary, surgical and medical testing / procedures / admissions in Scheduling Books.
Applies developing / basic working knowledge and experience to the job. Works on routine assignments within defined parameters, established guidelines and precedents.
Job Requirements :
Education and Work Experience :
- High School Education / GED or equivalent : Preferred
- Associate’s / Technical degree in business or equivalent combination of education / related experience : Preferred
Essential Functions :
- Takes telephone requests for authorizations. Prepares referral requests. Obtains authorizations and collects patient data.
- Maintains responsibility for obtaining pre-defined data, completing scheduling process in computer system, scheduling conflict resolution and cancelling / revising based on patient / provider / or facility request.
Provides patients with necessary instructions regarding preparation, timing and location of exams per facility guidelines.
Maintains electronic health record (EHR) referral documentation reflecting actions on specific referrals, including adding incoming referrals that were not generated from the electronic health record (EHR).
Tracks referral patient compliance and communicates with referring provider, as necessary, regarding patients refusing service or not showing up to a referral appointment.
- Selects correct patient and correct service / exam. Ensures orders and required authorizations are in place. Collects clinical data under facility direction to ensure test is appropriate.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
