AECOM is actively seeking a talented mid-level Geologist for immediate employment at our Milwaukee, Wisconsin office. The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data in both the field and office settings. The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological soil logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. The office activities will involve preparation of investigation reports and management of data. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative.
Responsibilities
- Conduct surface and subsurface investigations that employ soil borings, test pits, well installations, soil groundwater vapor sampling, aquifer testing, bore hole and surface geophysical surveys.
- Examines and describes soil samples and interprets geologic and hydrogeologic conditions.
- Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations.
- Performs subsurface drilling investigations to determine the presence and extent of contamination in soil and groundwater, and vapor in soil pore-space matrices.
- Collects multimedia samples for field and laboratory testing.
- Analyzes and applies solutions to atypical and/or semi-complex and challenging issues using standard operating procedures/methodologies as a basis, and may help determine the appropriate approach for new assignments.
- Proactive in recognizing and appropriately addressing health and safety issues for entire team.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports and environmental permit application packages.
- Assist with procurement and oversight of subcontractors.
- Assists with preparation of proposals for small and moderate scope projects.
- Works independently with minimal to moderate level of guidance.
- Assist Project Managers with budget and scope preparation, development of work plans and overall coordination of a variety of project management tasks related to new and on-going projects.
- May assist more junior staff members with aspects of their job or may coordinate activities of a small team.
- Drives quality control of assigned tasks or small segments of a project.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in geology or relevant geological science discipline (e.g., geophysics, hydrogeology, or geochemistry.
- Minimum 2 years of environmental remediation and investigation experience needed.
- Valid Driver's license.
- US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with environmental site assessments, site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects at various client sites.
- Experience with a soil, groundwater, vapor, and stormwater field collection methods.
- Experience applying geological knowledge to monitoring and subsurface investigations in field and office settings.
- Possess technical report writing skills and prepare monitoring and investigation reports.
- Independent field work and leadership of field teams.

Experience with conducting field work, including:
- Driving to project sites;
- Subcontractor oversight;
- Utility clearance;
- Soil drilling, characterization, and sampling;
- Monitoring well (groundwater and soil vapor) installation and test pit excavation;
- Soil, sediment, soil vapor, sanitary system, surface water, and groundwater sampling;
- Surface and borehole geophysical techniques;
- Aquifer testing, including slug tests, packer testing; step-drawdown and tracer tests; and
- Remedial systems performance monitoring.
- Ability to clearly communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, and clients during field activities.
- Ability to travel up to 50% to various job sites in the region.
- 40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER certificate or annual refresher certificate.
- 10 hour and/or 30 hour OSHA Construction Supervisory certificate.
- First Aid/CPR certificate.
- Candidate must be proficient with basic computer programs; Microsoft Suite Programs.
