Position Overview:
Lead the Data Office function of Aegon Asset Management in the creation of a data driven culture that exploits strategic and tactical business opportunities from data driven insights, all built on a foundation of strong data governance and data policies.
Job Description
- Position is globally location-agnostic in one of our Aegon Asset Management hubs.
Responsibilities:
Lead, and motivate the Data Office staff globally to introduce a best practice approach to governance regimes, while promoting a culture aligned with the Aegon Asset Management people strategy, where employee input is actively sought, encouraged and acted upon. Ensure strong controls are in place at all times.
- Be the corporate leader of data-driven insights that help support and exploit strategic and tactical business opportunities
- Work with executives / senior management to establish the vision for managing data as a business asset; exploit data using research and analytics to maximize the return on data assets. Develop methods to ensure consistent application and use of data
- Establish the governance of data and algorithms used for analysis, reporting and analytical applications in conjunction with the second and third line functions as appropriate
- Foster the creation of a data-driven culture with related competencies in data literacy across the enterprise
- Collaborate with the relevant senior stakeholders and accountable executives to create policies and controls for the appropriate protection of information assets. Collaborate with the Chief Technology Office to bring forward the appropriate technologies to support
- Be responsible for data protection encompassing a defined information life cycle, from acquisition or creation to retention and end of life destruction and disposal procedures
- Build a market network to monitor market developments and innovations to add value to Aegon Asset Management. Initiate projects to achieve this value add
- Support the team to build skills in process excellence, project management, facilitation, problem solving, and value creation.
- Provide line management, coaching, development, and guidance to expand the effectiveness of the Date Office team
- Develop feedback mechanisms at strategic touch points to facilitate open discussions of organizational improvement opportunities
- Actively contribute to the COO Leadership team discussions and decision-making and seek out the opportunity to contribute to the overall COO strategy
- Travel internationally to offices (as needed, but will be limited)
In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder may be required to perform other duties assigned by his/her manager from time to time, so long as such duties are within the job holder’s scope and ability.
Required Qualifications:
- Relevant Bachelor’s/Masters degree or equivalent
- Experience in a data function or involvement in data practice.
- Experience in integrating complex, cross-organizational processes and information strategies, and/or designing strategic metrics and scorecards
- Experience with strategic technology planning, execution and policy development/maintenance
- Experience with data structure; information systems/tools, and related software and data management; data governance, data privacy, and record-keeping policies and practices
- Experience in finance and financial services
- Experience in leading cross-functional teams and enterprise-wide programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
