Job Summary
As a Professional Land Surveyor, you will have specific duties and will be responsible for different projects. The Professional Land Surveyor will apply diverse knowledge of the surveying practice and will be responsible for work as it pertains to the PLS license.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist in the development of plats, topography surveys, construction staking, and related surveying activities.
- Assist the Senior Survey Manager with work including field surveying and office related compiling of field data. Responsible for overseeing site survey crews and all scheduling of personnel and necessary equipment.
- Conducts pre-trip meetings to discuss tasks and logistics with the crew; makes sure that necessary insurance is obtained.
- Meets clients at site to discuss plans, expectations and changes to design. May suggest additional projects or modifications that would be beneficial to the client and the firm.
- Makes sure that the data collected is what the client wants; may add to the contract by discussing with the client; identifies other services available to the client to increase the contract size, or add functions or to solidify the contract and explain the work to the client to increase certainty.
- Adjusts plan to meet environmental conditions by improvising and solving problems that occur in the field. Ensures that the field team is productive and that all data collected is accurate. Because of expense of re-visits, data collected must be comprehensive, precise in scope and completely accurate. Builds redundancy into field trips in case of breakdown.
- Observes conditions to ensure safety and effectiveness of survey operations. Invoices the equipment used for some jobs. Provides observations and physical description of field site to engineers.
- Downloads data (Raw Files, Text Files, Job Files, etc.) which is then imported into Microstations or AutoCADD. Reviews raw data initially in CADD and reviews contour lines to make sure that it appears correct; makes mark-ups for final quality control of survey prior to presentation to client.
- Development of subordinate staff as warranted.
Qualifications and Skills
Candidate must be a Professional Land Surveyor licensed in the state employed. College diploma in a related field and four or more years of related experience.
