Job Summary Perform highly skilled work and direct the work of others in the maintaining, repairing, inspecting, installing, rebuilding and construction of all types of power plant equipment and buildings and correct the causes of trouble that develops in such equipment. Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1.) Diagnose trouble and maintain mechanical equipment by the performance of duties such as determine and correct faults in pneumatic and hydraulic circuits; repair and align turbine-generators and their components; set thrust and balance drum clearance on boiler feed pumps; overhaul boiler feed pumps; inspect and rebuild air compressors. 2.) Operate machine shop and portable machine equipment such as lathes, shapers, drill presses, milling machines, boring bars and similar machining equipment to produce accurate measurements on all shapes including those not readily machined on standard machine tools. Develop jigs and fixtures as necessary and perform precision fitting of component parts as required. Collect and interpret equipment alignment data and perform other similar work. Use monitoring equipment such as vibration and thermal test equipment to assess equipment conditions and to perform single and dual plane balancing. 3.) Perform metal cutting (oxyacetylene, propylene, etc.) and all position non-code electric arc structural and pipe welding on equipment such as fittings, fans and fan lining, pulverizers, coal pipes, conveyors, tractors, screens, steel structures, heaters, evaporators, brazing work as may be required on such items; metal spray items for wear and abrasion purposes, such as recirculating gas fan runners and wear plates; P.A. fan runners and casings and conveyor pulleys; perform silver soldering such as tubing, piping and common connection. Work requiring the use of and ability of a certified welder is excluded. 4.) Perform heat treatment of metals such as tempering, case hardening, etc. 5.) Inspect, erect and remove scaffolding, rigging and blocking. 6.) Perform alignment work for all rotating equipment (including double couplings and bearings) using dial indicators (16 point method, laser alignment equipment and similar tooling). 7.) Operate mobile equipment and its associated equipment and perform duties incidental to the operation of such equipment. Maintain equipment, tools and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to supervision. 8.) Obtain permits and determine that equipment to be worked on has been properly cleared and tagged. Perform duties in accordance with operating instructions, safety regulations and current practices. Prepare & maintain records as required. Assist in the training of other employees in work of this nature. Instruct, assist and direct other employees in work as required. Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned. 9.) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education requirements are listed below: Two year Associate degree in engineering technology, industrial technology, energy technology or equivalent. Equivalent would include 2- years of military experience or an Associate 's degree plus the following: Must have performed the duties of and have met all the qualifications of EO Jr. Maintenance line of progression, the Maintenance Mechanic Jr. and the Maintenance Mechanic, and must be able to pass an examination, if required Work Experience requirement listed below: 1.Must have performed the duties of, and have maintained all the qualifications of the line-of-progression starting with EO Jr., Maintenance Mechanic Jr. and Maintenance Mechanic as noted in the maintenance-line-of-progression. 2.Must be able to pass an examination, as required, and in addition should have 4,160 hours as a Maintenance Mechanic or the equivalent and successfully passed all job demos. 3.Must have a thorough and working knowledge of the layout, construction and functions of the equipment & apparatus in and about the plant, plant maintenance, materials, practices, tools, rigging, scaffolding and blocking involved in the work. 4.Must be able to read, interpret and work from complex prints and specifications. 5. Must have a thorough working knowledge of equipment procedures and the rules, safety practices & procedures applicable to the work. 6. Must have demonstrated the ability to lead and direct and coordinate work. Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: Must possess the appropriate State driver license and obtain and maintain all necessary certifications and licenses as required. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Physical demand level is Medium 1. Must be able to climb ladders & stairs a number of times each day. 2. Must be able to use fine dexterity to move switches & controls to precise locations 3. Must be able to detect color on alarms, equipment & other devices 4. Must be able to hear announcements on the Plant PA system, and to hear abnormal sounds of plant equipment 5. Must be able to communicate plant information by phone, in person or by radio 6. Must be able to work on heights, grating, platforms and catwalks. 7. Must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of pressure to manually turn off valves. 8.
