Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages the daily activities of the Maui High Performance Computer Center (MHPCC),one of five DoD Supercomputing Resource Centers (DSRCs) that are supported by the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP)
  • Leads military and civilian personnel providing direct oversight to contractors
  • Recommends MHPCC development and procurement efforts that support DoD science and technology (S&T), test and evaluation (T&E), acquisition, and warfighter communities
  • Develops solutions to implement strategic guidance developed by MHPCC Director and HPCMP leadership to create a robust collection of high performance computing, processing, networking, storage, and customer support services to meet the needs of its users
  • Defines work structure, resources, plans, and management that focuses efforts on organizational priorities
  • Identifies potential partners of HPC resources and initiates collaborative efforts to support their mission through MHPCC development, resource access, training, or site-specific solutions
  • Evaluates specific technology initiatives for potential research and development at MHPCC, including but not limited to: increased energy efficiency, classified computing, Space Situational Awareness, computing to support COCOMs, and Quantum Computing
  • Applies judgement and leadership to resolve issues in planning, execution, and reporting of MHPCC program spanning Joint Services
  • Negotiates and navigates requirements of collaborating with interagency partners and international coalition parties
  • Directs the allocation of resources at MHPCC
  • Meets expectations dictated by the HPCMP for reliability, performance, cost controls, and other defined metrics
  • Relocation costs or other incentives may be available and considered by the organization

Required Qualifications

  • Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR-02/GS-13 or equivalent grade level. Specialized experience is experience providing the capacity and skills for working independently, leading collaborative events, working in teams and using these approaches to find and solve complex problems. Such experience may also include training, collaborative process facilitation, innovation design practice, writing background, editing job roles, continuous process improvement credentials, multi-agency liaison work, published work in refereed technical journals, and/or briefings to large groups.
  • Must be able to obtain and manitain a Critical Sensitive Clearance
  • Certification: This is an APDP position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Program Management (A). This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The employee must meet, or be capable of meeting Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: To ensure compliance with an applicable preliminary nationwide injunction, which may be supplemented, modified or vacated, depending on the course of ongoing litigation, the federal government will take no action to implement or enforce the COVID-19 vaccination requirement pursuant to Executive Order 14043 on Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees. Therefore, to the extent a federal job announcement includes the requirement that applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 pursuant to Executive Order 14043, that requirement does not currently apply.
