What are the responsibilities and job description for the PA Phone Banker position at African Communities Together?
African Communities Together is seeking full time and part time paid phone bankers ahead of the November midterm election. Paid phone bankers will be responsible for engaging African/Black Diaspora voters across Pennsylvania districts and encouraging them to make plans to vote. Phone bankers will represent African Communities Together and its values. Candidates should have a genuine interest in the cause and be able to convey its importance to people.
Responsibilities:
- Phone banking, having conversations with African/Black community voters about the upcoming election
- Tracking conversation results in phone banking software
- Talking with voters about relevant issues that might come up over the phone
- Data entry and record keeping
- Attending daily check-ins and preparing reports
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong verbal communication skills. Phone bankers are expected to communicate with a variety of African immigrants, from voters to active members of the African community.
- Previous phone banking experience, but are not required. Cultural competence and significant experience with African immigrant communities or within the social justice sector. Experience working with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and communities.
- Fluency in a widely spoken African language (one or more) is required.
- Candidates should be comfortable with rejection. Candidates should have the ability to stay motivated and positive, even when facing difficult or unresponsive people.
- Living in the Greater Philadelphia area
- A reliable internet, computer, and a smartphone. Shifts take place on weekday evenings and weekends. Schedule is flexible for when applicants are able to make shifts (must be willing to work some weekends).
- Candidates should have strong organizational skills, be accountable to goals and be able to prioritize their work.
- Candidates should be able to work independently, take initiative, and be adaptable to changing circumstances.
Pay: $20/hour contract work.
