The Farm Foreman is responsible for operating boats and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. They are responsible for understanding what is required of each crew member and to ensure the team achieves goals outlined by management. The Farm Foreman is response for understanding and executing all aspects of planting, growing, and gear maintenance of Hog Island premium quality shellfish as well as infrastructure construction and maintenance of oyster leases. The Farm Foreman is also responsible for harvesting, sorting, and storing Hog Island premium quality shellfish. They are responsible for executing all farm SOPs in a safe, sustainable, and efficient manner consistent with Company visions and values.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate boats and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ensures that quarterly and weekly plans for grow out, harvesting, and equipment are executed in a manner consistent with established SOPs and guidelines.
- Ensures crew members work in a safe and efficient manner while achieving goals.
- Ensures product is handled in a safe manner ensuring both employee safety and food safety procedures are executed.
- Communicates harvest, sorting, gear and equipment performance on a daily basis including entries in the Harvest log, Inventory Management System, Daily Schedule and on the Lease Boards.
- Communicate the work schedule/plan to crew members on a daily basis and ensures the crew achieves the plan. Any changes to planned work are communicated to Farm Management.
- Demonstrate and train on the importance of compliance, best practices, following SOP's and Company policy.
- Ensure that the crew are respectful of bay (birds, trash, other boats).
- Ensures all equipment is clean, in good working order and operated in a way that minimizes damage. Communicates with farm management on equipment needs.
- Keep sorting area clean and organized ensuring that the area is washed down before lunch and at end of each day, tables sanitized daily, trash picked up below pad, all tools are put away.
- Daily updates to Retail and Wholesale include updating tank boards and wet storage log and sending reports to Wholesale of all oysters in tanks.
- Provide feedback to Management on the performance of the crews.
- Understands all aspects of oyster grow out including gear design and construction as well as oyster grow out best practices.
- Fill in as the Deckhand or the Truck Driver as needed.
- MAKE SURE EVERYONE HAS FUN!!!; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition, the individual must be punctual, have a good attendance record, and have reliable means of transportation to work.
- Intimate knowledge of Tomales Bay, boat operations and tide logs
- Proficient in shellfish growing techniques, sizing and quality standards
- Ability to safely operate, boats, trucks, cranes, sorting equipment, forklift, and skid steer
- Basic knowledge in desktop applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Communication skills in Spanish preferred
- Have a general knowledge of pertinent food safety measure. HACCP, Vibrio Control plan, rainfall closures, time temperature matrices.
Education and Experience:
- Experience with a variety of equipment including boats, trucks, skid steer and forklift
- Swim Certification
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- California Boater Card
