Head Grower

Dan & Jerry's Greenhouses, a national leader in growing annuals and perennials, is hiring a full time Head Grower for our Harrisonville, MO location. We have growing operation in MO, MN, IA, SD and MI and are a wholesale supplier to retailers throughout the Midwest and the East Coast.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head Grower is responsible for the performance of plant growth based on planning, preparation, oversight, and maintenance of greenhouse plant production at Dan and Jerry's Greenhouses Harrisonville, Missouri growing range. Collaborating with the Company Head Grower and Range Manager, the Head Grower will lead and manage the growing strategies and schedules, as needed, to ensure completed range tasks within specified timelines and on budget.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (comprehensive, but not limited to):

• Ensure that that your range is properly monitoring and controlling plant nutrition at all stages of crop growth.
• With range growers, assess watering needs and adjust irrigation systems accordingly to maintain plant health.

• Working with your range growers to properly implement an integrated pest management program.
• Ensure required daily tasks are completed, while accurately maintaining records, data, and research projects.

• Recommend corrective actions such as removal of plants or remedial treatments as appropriate and timely.

• Collaborative inclusion on varietal selections for the Harrisonville range.
• Always lead and promote a culture of safety and well-being.
• Ensure that continuous improvement processes are established and in practice.

• Lead, develop, and motivate your team to promote a culture of high performance.
• Always maintains a strict level of confidentiality concerning Dan and Jerry's Greenhouses strategic, operational, and financial positions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent in agriculture, horticulture, plant sciences, or comparable.
• 5-7 years growing experience in a large (15 acres) greenhouse environment.
• Applicator's license preferred or be willing to obtain applicator's license.
• Knowledge and experience with minimum of one environmental control system.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

• Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (Chemicals and Biologicals).
• Ability to review, analyze, and communicate financial performance for the area of responsibility.

Environments can at times be dusty, warm, and humid.

Travel is required for this position, approx.5-10% annually. Valid driver's license required.
