POSITION SUMMARY

The Outbound Supervisor plans and coordinates daily outbound operations. Establishes and communicates procedures to ensure accurate and efficient outbound order fulfillment and loading. Effectively utilizes leadership skills to motivate outbound team to achieve key metrics, including production goals, performance standards, and quality requirements. Must be able to supervise a diverse work force and recognize their abilities. Relies on distribution and warehousing expertise to promote safe and efficient work practices. Supervises leads, specialists, associates and temporary staff. Works under general supervision of Distribution Center (DC) Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plan and direct all phases of daily outbound operations, including order picking, product staging, palletizing, and loading. Create picking and loading schedules and assignments for outbound team members to maximize productivity. Effectively communicate with DC management team to review daily outbound orders.
  • Monitor order picking operations by regularly driving through warehouse picking zones and/or viewing computer systems. Determine status of orders across all pick zones and reassign team members as necessary based on product volume in upcoming orders.
  • Oversee loading dock operations including consolidation, load building and verification. Ensure pallets are built safely and to optimum size and weight. May occasionally drive forklifts to load trailers. Process all paperwork and documentation to ship and bill orders in the computer system.
  • Troubleshoot complex order issues that arise during shipping and loading operations. Investigate conditions and merchandise by checking computer systems and physical inventory. Resolve product discrepancies during load verification, check inventory to obtain replacement items, and process damaged merchandise according to established facility procedures.
  • In coordination with DC Manager, identify best practices and document changes to existing SOPs to ensure they are implemented, trained, and followed.
  • Develop and maintain open lines of communication with team members. Communicate performance expectations, provide regular coaching and feedback as well as on-the-job training to individuals and groups. Effectively demonstrate skills and communicate technical information.
  • Coordinate with the DC Manager on Inbound team development. Provide input on warehouse staffing plan to meet production goals and seasonal volume projections. Interview and select warehouse employees and temporary staff. Utilize reporting to monitor and track production metrics. Recognize accomplishments, encourage teamwork and build a positive working environment.
  • Monitor facility and equipment to identify maintenance needs and notify Maintenance Mechanic. Rotate team member assignments to allow appropriate time for housekeeping duties. Serve as an example by maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
  • Support facility compliance with all government regulations, Agway Farm and Home Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards, work rules and policies for warehousing, material handling and receiving of facility goods and products. Regularly review safety procedures and promote safe work practices with Inbound team members. Work safely as to not cause harm to yourself, co-workers, equipment, or inventory.
  • May occasionally perform various receiving functions to support operations during periods of excessive volume or other critical business need, including driving a forklift.
  • Perform all other job functions as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree in business management or related field required; specialization in distribution, supply chain management and/or logistics a plus. A combination of completed coursework and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 5-7 years of work experience in a distribution environment with cross training in various operations including shipping and receiving required.
  • Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a warehouse lead role.
  • Effective knowledge of distribution center operations including shipping, receiving, and transportation.
  • Effective knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing warehouse receiving, storage and distribution.
  • Operational knowledge of all distribution production equipment.
  • Able to manage multiple operations simultaneously to maximize efficiency.
  • Able to perform data analysis to modify production operations for increased efficiency.
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate percentages using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Computer literacy to utilize and operate various systems and software including ERP systems, Microsoft Office, online time keeping software.
  • Able to communicate instructions and technical information in a clear and concise manner when instructing individuals and/or small groups.
  • Effective leadership and team building skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to speak, read, write the English language in a proficient manner.
  • Able to work extended hours to meet business demands.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role continuously performs essential job functions indoors in an environment that is not climate controlled and experiences temperature and humidity swings. Depending upon location, essential job functions are occasionally performed outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continually required to balance, bend, and stack; drive motorized equipment; finger and handle equipment controls and merchandise; reach with arms and hands; stand on concrete surface and while driving motorized picker truck and forklift; twist back and neck; utilize feet and hands in repetitive motion while driving motorized equipment; pull, push, lift, carry 10-55 pounds unassisted. The employee is frequently required to crouch and kneel; pull, push, lift, carry 55-100 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to climb, sit, stoop and walk; pull, push, lift, carry over 100 pounds with assistance.

Must be able to hear equipment sounds, warehouse pages, co-workers and radio. Must be able to speak to co-workers regarding production and safety. Specific vision abilities required by this position include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
