Aiken Land Conservancy (ALC) seeks a passionate person to take the lead in stewarding ALC’s
conservation easements and fee-owned lands. This position will play a key role in fostering positive
landowner, partner, and community relationships through the monitoring of conservation easements,
the facilitation of land management opportunities for private landowners, the close collaboration with
partner organizations, and the management of fee-owned properties. The Stewardship Coordinator will
also have the unique opportunity to work closely with the Executive Director on a number of other ALC
activities as time, interest, and skillsets allow.
Responsibilities
Conservation Easement and Fee-owned Land Monitoring
1. Monitor conservation easements and properties owned in fee on an annual basis through
in-person visits to the properties to document whether the terms of the conservation
easement are being met.
2. Develop monitoring reports with a map, photos, and site observations following each visit.
3. Communicate with private landowners and community partners to both maintain and
cultivate positive relationships.
4. Work closely with the ALC board and Executive Director to enforce conservation easements,
if necessary.
Land Management
1. Communicate effectively with private landowners and partners to identify, explain, and
support land management needs.
2. Secure cost-share funding to support land management activities on conservation
easements or fee-owned lands and, upon receipt, work to implement that funding in
strategic and efficient ways.
3. Facilitate land management activities such as invasive plant treatment and prescribed
burning.
4. Assess and implement opportunities for public access on fee-owned lands.
5. Write land management plans, when necessary, for both fee-owned and conservation
easement properties.
Other Duties
1. Organize and maintain records per Land Trust Alliance accreditation requirements.
2. Assist with updating maps related to conservation easement and fee-owned properties
using ArcGIS Pro.
3. Assist Executive Director with Baseline Documentation Reports for new conservation
easement projects.
4. Assist with other ALC activities as time, interest, and skillsets allow including, but not limited
to, environmental education, partner or public events, new conservation projects, biological
surveys, advocacy, and media production.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a related field or an unrelated bachelor’s degree with related experience in the field.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated diplomatic skills.
A valid South Carolina driver’s license or the ability to get a valid South Carolina driver’s license within 60 days.
Ability to hike in a variety of terrain types in a variety of field conditions.
Familiarity and, ideally, experience with Southeastern land management activities.
Ability to pay close attention to details and stay organized.
Ability to produce quality work both independently and collaboratively.
Comfort with multi-tasking.
A demonstrated passion for conservation.
