Aim Outdoors is looking to add a talented CAD Designer/Draftsman to our staff. Our fully equipped and growing machine shop requires talented staff in order to minimize outsourcing and maintain a great degree of flexibility for new projects. Responsibilities:
- Creating mechanical parts, assemblies and drawings using SolidWorks
- Produce quality drawings, transforming 3D models into practical 2D prints for in-house manufacturing
- Utilizing and maintaining Solidworks Toolbox, Library, and Templates
- Take direction from and provide feedback to Sr. Design Engineers
- Create as-built drawings and documentation. Knows how to use common inspection tools.
- Reverse engineer physical parts and translate hand sketches into working components
- Prepare drawing packages for release to fabrication
- Drafting is the primary responsibility but opportunities for design are plentiful
- Coordinate and prioritize multiple projects with minimal supervision.
- Communicate with various departments coordinating efforts to drive on-time completion and delivery of new products.
- Apply DFM/DFA principles to optimize cost tradeoffs between component and labor costs; refine component designs and process using supplier and in-house manufacturing inputs.
- Write and conduct validation and verification testing to release new products to production.
- Develop processes, methods, tooling, and production controls to seamlessly take designs into production with low manufacturing costs; supervises their assembly and proofing. Creates documentation for the new processes.

- Self-starter, resourceful person able to work independently or in a team
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks as needed
- Strong language skills and ability to interpret and create clear and concise engineering drawings
- Enjoys pushing the envelope, and being a creative thinker when it comes to design possibilities
- Expertise with MS Office
- Formal training or education
- Experience designing mechanical systems
- Experience in CNC machining
- Basic GD&T understanding
- Shop experience
- 2D CAD experience
- Other specialty software, Photoshop, Illustrator, Mastercam, CNC Machining, etc
Education/Experience Desired:
- 5-10 years experience in mechanical engineering design.
- Strong understanding of test purposes, methodology, and timing to verify, document and validate new product designs.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, preferably materials (metals, plastics, and processing), statics/mechanics, mechanisms, testing, instrumentation, and FEA methods.
- Knowledge of GD&T principles in the ASME Y14.5 drafting standard.
- Strong CAD and drafting skills, preferably SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of modern fabrication and assembly techniques and machine-shop practices and techniques.
- Familiar with CNC machining and plastic injection molding.
- Able to document all work and projects.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Takes initiative and can work effectively with little direction and/or few guidelines.
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Firearm experience is preferred
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office tools: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project
Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean concepts preferable.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
