The Library’s HR Generalist for Employee Relations serves an important role by working with employees and supervisors to engage in constructive dialogue to ensure an equitable, inclusive, engaging, and respectful experience for all employees consistent with the Library’s policies, Core Values, and culture. The work ranges from coaching sessions to writing and administering disciplinary documents to conducting thorough and objective investigations. The role is based at Main Library but travels to all locations to support Library and employee needs.
Additionally, through coordinating the leave of absence, accommodation, and workers' compensation programs, the HR Generalist works with employees facing their own or a family member’s serious medical condition and helps them to understand the Library’s policies and paperwork needed. Customer service is the core of our work, and that includes service to our internal customers: our coworkers. Because of the frequent and sensitive interactions required of the HR Generalist, the individual needs strong communication and interpersonal skills that enable the person to work successfully on a broad spectrum of employee relations issues. Active listening is the key to that communication so the individual can understand the situation correctly.
